I'm ordering a crate engine from Howell but this is what they have listed...

Crate Motor Long Block 2.0 Litre 420a with core DOHC $4,699.95
Crate Motor Long Block 2.0 Litre 420a without core DOHC $4,949.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.0 Litre 420a with core $1,899.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.0 Litre 420a without core $2,149.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.0 Litre with core Long Rod $1,899.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.0 Litre without core Long Rod $2,149.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.2 Stroker 420a with core $2,399.95
Crate Motor Short Block 2.2 Stroker 420a without core $2,649.95

I know I have a 2.0 420a DOHC engine but I dont know what engine up there is basically the same engine my car...I just basically wanna order my engine then get the Stage 2 Turbo Kit from Hahn that will get me 275 hp and high 13 second car....so which engine is basically the one that came with my 97 Eclipse GS Manual?

umm what are you trying to do? LOL You say order a new engine (is your old one blown or are you trying to get a rebuild?)

Now all the engines listed are for the eclipse 95-99 n/t (420a engine). The tranny's do not make a diff in the engine that you will order. Please try and clarify what you are trying to ask, thanks :dsm:

I completely wore out a bearing in my engine and my mechanic said that I could have new bearings installed but that might be a bad idea b/c they could wear out in 6 months if theres a problem with the engine so he said since I would have to take the engine out anyways I should just buy a new one instead of risking the bearings wearing out again. So I want to order a crate engine but on Howells site thats the list for 420a crate engines what I'm asking is whats the difference between them all....I just want the one thats closest to the one that came with my car....but if the others theres a significantly better I want to know if there worth the money or not.

Right, sorry i took a while to respond i was really a extremly interesting thread on 2gnt RE: Cams. Anyways if you are going to get a completly new engine for the car why not already get it stroked to 2.2l? Anyways to answer your question...if your engine is still good enough to send back as a core to howell you will be looking at the 1st one: Crate Motor Long Block 2.0 Litre 420a with core DOHC $4,699.95. If you dont have a core you are looking at spending another $300.

May I point out what is included in the core (like seriously bro a completly built engine):
0 Litre Create Motor Long Blocks comes with the following parts installed.

Clevite 77 Rod Bearing Set, Clevite 77 Main Bearing Set, Total Seal Piston Rings, New Carter Water Pump, All gaskets and Seals, Melling Oil Pump, Eagle Specialty Forged Rods,
JE Pistons in your choice of 8.6, 10.5 or 12.5 compression, 16 Eaton PT Cruiser Lash Adjusters (Lifters), 16 PT Cruiser Cam Followers (Rockers), Timing Belt, Complete Head Gasket Set, 1 Pair of Crane DOHC Cams 431-0010, 431-0012, 431-0014, 431-0016 or 431-0018, 1 Pair of AEM Adjustable Cam Gears, Crane Valve Springs, set of stainless steel valves, Seasoned Block and head.

Blocks are bored and honed with a deck plate to insure that the cylinder walls are true.,
Crankshaft and rotating assembly are race balanced
Cylinder head; Smooth the casting, and blend the seats, full race port with reshaped ports, reshaped combustion chamber, and full port matching.
Cams are degreed for proper centerline All clearances are blue printed

Here is the basics,
short block= no oil pump, just the basic block pistons crank etc, you get this type of set up if you have performance stuff to upgrade ie performance oil pump, bearings, stuff you purchased already.
Long block= complete motor less the head(they usually say no starter/altenator etc but you get the idea), you get this if you don't want to add small performance stuff yourself.
as far as core charges, they require a rebuildable block from you ie the one you currently own. you install the motor you bought from them send the lod one (less the parts you need) back and you get your core charge back in this case 300 bucks.
