i bought this car back in December and it seems pretty slow, my last car was a cavalier z24 v6, but i been reading around hearing the stock n/t talon has 140hp. that seems to be alot of power for a 4 cylinder and should be comparable to my z24, but my z24 would kill this car no problem. i have no check engine light or anything, and the engine seems to run and idle fine, but this car takes off embarrassingly slow :( just about any car can take this from 0-60 LOL

any suggestions, besides buying an awd turbo? :p

Nothing is wrong with your car, it is just like that buddy. There are some options for your 420a though. Underdrive Pulley, Header, Exhaust, Intake, all of which will help your car breathe a lot better (except for pulley) and thus accelerate much better. Do a search for 420a modifications and hit up the above site. Good luck modding!

There's probably nothing "wrong" with your car, it's just not very powerful and certainly not very light.

There's sure as hell nothing wrong with it's looks, though. And that's what reels in the bimbos. :thumb:

Yikes...Going from a Z24 to an N/T Talon must be a bit of an acceleration shock for you. Those Z24's have a lot of getupango. But yeah...I kinda feel your pain, though I had a drastically different transition. I went from a 1990 Cavalier VL (2.2L 4cyl) to my 95 Talon. So it was definately an enormous step up in looks, performance, and handling. After a while, though, I noticed that my Talon was kinda draggin' ass. So I bought and installed an intake and that made a pretty noticable difference. I also just recently added a more free-flowing muffler. Makes the car sound positively mean, and it seems to up my power just a little bit more. Both mods put together probably barely gave me 5 horses. But it's something. It doesn't help at ALL that my car's automatic.

Gotta give you credit though. Your car looks SICK. I never thought I'd see a tasteful aftermarket wing, but it seems that you pulled it off. I'd give my left nut to have my body and paint looks as good as that, too. I've got little scratches and dings all over the place. Everyone says that they don't even notice, but I do and it almost makes me wanna cry. Workin' on gettin' it fixed, though.

Anyway...Good luck, man. Do like they said. Intake, muffler (don't bother with a bigger exhaust or a header unless you have a turbo...I've been told, and seen, that on non-turbo cars, adding a bigger than stock exhaust system can actually make you LOSE power), a high flow monolithic cat. Maybe a turbo if you feel like going in that deep. And if you're real serious about going fast, look into weight reduction. Talons and Eclipses, as small cars ago, are EXTREMELY heavy. Ever wonder why Civics respond so dramatically to small upgrades? Because there's nothing to 'em weight-wise!

you dont need a header if you have a turbo :p

i dont see why people get headers if there are little to no power gains?

thx for the tips guys, even tho my car looks sorta nice, I'm very tempted to sell this and buy a turbo version. i like this car alot and put alot of time into it but it's just slow for me i think, and yes the women absolutely love the car, but i have to love it also or I'm not happy :) here are a couple more pics if anyone is interested, i dunno how much i should ask for it. any suggestions?

i dont know how the money flows over there, but here you could easily get 5.5 grand for that talon. my advice is to start of as high as u can, and lower ur standards accordingly, but theres always a dumbass who'll eat it all up usually cuz they have no idea how to buy or because they're rich. theres a lot of things you could do to that talon, dont just go for muffler and intake, sure, those are the simplest and perhaps the most common upgrades, but you could still change a lot of things. ever thought of porting it? of course, porting is not as easy as you might think, not many people have the equipment for that. dont give up now

agreed^^^

it all depends where you live. i could probably get 6.5 here. kbb said i could get 8 for mine. but definatly dont give up now. IMO the 420a is a great project engine. sure its kinda slow when you start off, but not too slow, still able to beat the average riced out civic, but with some time and money, they can be made pretty damn fast
:dsm: :talon:

thx for the help guys. I'm undecided what i want to do with it because i do like the car alot. maybe ill add a little here and a little there :D

what are you talking about, that had everything to do with the thread! haha

by the way, just so you know, its common for front wheel drive cars to have slow take off. but i know for a fact that rs's arent slow after 20 mph. dont do racing at a complete stop, try doin streetstarts, maybe that will earn u a lil more respect.

non-turbos are very slow before 20mph... once 4,000rpms comes around though you will notice a lot more power then underneath that (thats relative though... still not impressive). Our motor is 140hp/130lb-ft so standing starts are not cool, high 8 seconds 0-60. with an exhaust and intake you will notice that after 4000rpm you will gain a bit more power but underneath that - still no dice.
before I got my talon i test drove a cavalier with the big motor and I was very impressed - those things have balls!

thats probably why it feels like my second gear pulls like a bi*** and my first gear really sucks. cuz in second im never under 4,000 rpms.
