Just to let everyone know, there is still someone out there working on a n/t build-up. After a year of doing extensive research, buying the parts, fixing mistakes, and getting everything to cooperate I am finally back on the road. Granted it is still a work in progress and nothing has been professionally tuned yet, but it's up and running better than I expected.:thumb: So for those out there still clinging onto the dream that this could actually be done, here is some hope of reality. Unfortunately now I have to play the waiting game until I save up some more $ to be able to afford the dyno bill and a stand-alone computer w/ laptop to get everything on the same page. Right now my stock ECU is getting a headache with all the changes I have done.LOL But I am fairly satisfied with how's it's going so far. There is already a noticeable difference that encourages me to keep going. If all works out, this summer I will take it to the track, get some more numbers and continue with the project. Wish me luck!:thumb:

That's great to hear. What kind of problems did you run into? What parts did and didn't work? I'm curious to know what you've done so far as I'm starting my build up this spring, so any input would be most helpful!:thumb:

Well keep in mind that I am still in the works and have no definitive results yet. But I am certainly impressed with the gains on the upper end of the power band. I am able to exceed 8 grand on the rpm's with massive pull after 5. There is a little bit of a lull between 2-4, but considering I have the cam gears simply positioned at -4 on both sides with base timing at 7 just because that is where I had the best luck with, I'm not surprised. Adding the oil cooler was a trip in a half. Ended up relocating it on the opposite side after running it through a cooler in front of the radiator. The GM MAFT is a great addition with positioning the air filter in the fender well. Added so much more air coming in I was running dangerously lean before upgrading to the 390cc from an auto/turbo Talon. Obviously I went to the extreme with all forged internals, but am hoping that makes a huge difference with reliability and durability. There was a lot of fabrication to be done with adding the FPR and oil cooler. I am pretty sure I will have to upgrade my fuel pump and ignition system yet to meet the need at higher rpm's. The idle is fairly rough, can hear every vibration coming through the vehicle, but when it gets past 3k, all is good and it just wants to keep going. So it's definately not for someone who expects comfort at cruising speeds. Any other specifics, just PM me. I don't want to get into a novel of what was done on the forum page. I am hoping those interested can use this as a pretty good guide line. The biggest problem I was having trying to do this approach was lack of information done in the past. Either because it was never tried, or never documented. But my mechanic and I we going on hunches and prayers and just hoped everything worked out. So far so good!:thumb:

Thanx! I'll def have a few questions in the future so I'll get a hold of you.

That makes two of us!! N/A's are just as capable of having fun just like any other type of motor. It takes hard work, dedication, and alot of trial and error. Keep it up and keep us posted!

I found the maft to make my car slightly more powerful after 5k but weaker before it. with the stock maf I can easily see my rpm's begin to move faster at 4k. And with the maft it moved faster only past 5k. I'm sure you're more race oriented, but the area under the curve makes a difference. This is just an ovservation I noticed w/turbo cams and breathing mods. Keep us updated.

Mine had a groove around the cam seal area. I had to move the new cam seal so it wouldnt leak oil. These cams are old, you aren't going to find one without some miles on it. Try your local headshop. They had a bin of stock 4g63 cams at the one near my home. They shouldn't sell junk either. They know when to throw that shit away.
