New here, but not to DSM's. My last one was a 90 AWD that went 12.8 @ 109...anyway. Seeing as how I have to make the best of this little 1.8L, I have a intake, wires and a fresh motor. Seeing as how I have yet to find headers, my question comes from that....has anyone ported and polished the stock manifold and checked results? I know some of the Honda crowd has had some luck with the H22 manifold being ported.
Also on the same note, what kind (size exhaust are most running) I would think a 2" would be fine from the DP back.

Who still has their cat and if not did you notice any improvment when it was removed?

Thanks guys....BTW---soon I may be starting the 4G63T swap. Web site and detail to follow. :dsm:

an exhaust is the best mod i have done yet other than my new head. i have a 2.5in catback exhaust, with a hi flow cat which basically is a resonator... works great and love the gains from it. 2" wouldn't give that much of diference specially if u plan on doing other mods. i didn't not loose any low end power with this size exhaust i gained power all threw out the powerband... other things you can do is an external coil and msd ignition which has bin done and i plan on it being my next mod... its found on www.dsm1eights.com ;)

well i first i took it off to get rebiult because my vavles seals were bad and my car was smokin all the time, so i had it rebiult and i also got it shaved, decked w/e u call it LOL. its when the smooth out the bottom of the sylinder head and make the valves sit closer to the pistons or somthin like that. i wish i would of checked my compression before i did it cause my compression is now 205 across the board stock in good shap is 175. it all cost about 100 bucks for rebiuld, hot tanked and cleaned and checked warpage and all that, and decked. i gained about 10hp and defiantly alot more torque from this and all my other mods i have really helped to.. ;)

porting and polishing the intake involves trimming the opening on both sides to mach the gasket opening, "matching the ports", then polished so air flows nice & smooth.

shaving/decking the head is more of a maintenance thing to ensure that the surface is flat and smooth and will mate up to the block cleanly, without leaks
