I'm having problems finding a cold air intake for a 1g 2.0. I have a buddy with a 92 1.8 eclipse and we put a intake on his car after removing the stock intke completly and since we removed his intake sensor his car would not idle right and was running very rich, because of this my buddy ended up wasting like $75 for a intake that would not work. i just got a 90 talon with a 2.0 and i'm looking for a intake but i'm afraid that it might happen again, does anyone know how to put on a true cold air intke for my car? :talon:

Might want to do a search on this one, bub. It's been talked to death. The short of it is that you're SOL. They don't make on for our cars. You can get a solid intake pipe that allows the filter to be mounted in the stock location but no cold air unless you want to fab one.

actaully he didn't wast the money the intake still can be used u just can't take the maf sensor off. look at pics of cars with intakes ull see how it goes together. ;)

I made my own cold air/ram air intake using the hole that turbos use for the intercooler piping. 3" intake to 2" at that hole. I get a lot of freaking air.

I had problems finding intake for my car also, but i found one. Dragon Intakes . The intake uses the maf sensor and you have to use the can for it fit right. I wouldn't sugest it if you don't want to use the air can. :thumbdown

Yup, that's exactly what you do. Here's mine.

You can see the ring in blue. (Wasn't gonna do blue, but it was the only color spraypaint I had on hand and I didn't want the bare metal to rust.)

so you can just cut the whole can off, i thought you had to leave like the bottom part or somethin like that

Talk to Mike1992. He custom made a real cold air intake for his 1g N/T.

I was the pioneer and I wish I took some pics. Read my post in this forum called "Overkill on the CAI." It's a sticky thread.

yea i had a whole design for one a year ago. posted it on here somewhere. youd be better off doin it with the maf translator now so you dotn put your expensive mas in the path of aqua.

Here is how I did mine: 3 inch pvc, 3 90 degree elbows, 2 couplers, and hack the air can so you use the lid to put on the filter to the maf. You have to remove the silencer in the fender area and cut the hole in the engine bay larger. Once you fit the pipe all in place and position the maf underneath with filter already attached, then pvc cement it all together. Works fine, if your lowered, beware of puddles.

what were your gains on HP with the custom intake?...cuz ive heard the elbows in the PVC mess up the vortex of the air comin in..i am not possitive about this but a guy i know that went to nascar schooling talked me down from making my own because the elbows hurt the vortex of the air comin in, which in turns hurts yor performance because you r getting less air than stock. just asking...not putting down your idea

It was a stock replacement cheapo filter, I was using it during the rainy season and wanted to wait until the local road construction and weather calmed down before installing the k&n. now I'm back to stock anyway but with an open element k&n. As for gains, I never dyno'ed the car so no telling for sure. But from stock to that felt like an improvement. Even with the crap filter. Nothing spectacular, my udp made more of an improvement.

most use pvc but you can also use pre mandrel bent sections of exhaust piping. thats what i will be doing. slow boy has the bends and all

well mike, i look at it as a prototype for the real thing , like those car makers alwaysmake clay models b4 production, so if you look at it that way your well on your way for full production with metal piping :thumb:

this is just an idea but you could always use metal piping all the way down to where the intercooler would be and find or create the intake part of it, it should be more of a boxtype of filter (instead of a cone filter) with plexi glass covering it but still giving it enough room to allow air to be pulled it.
so the airfilter sits right where the intercooler would be if you had a turbo model.

thats a real CAI, CAI doesnt mean putting your cone filter infront of your right wheel, thats just crazy!

yes injen makes intakes for about 130 bucks but its your choice, either build one that people would drool over or dont.
dont purchase one that everyone else has on there honda, make one!.

now i understand that you would ask " what about the MAF?"well some inginuity and alot of time im sure you could think of something, it would look better and you probably wouldnt have to worryabout rain or cutting things on your car, PVC is nice but at the same time it isnt, just spend the 10 dollars and take it someplace where they deal with metal bending, you could always put the MAF into the piping or whatever you choose but im sure it would look and be less harmful to your engine, any water is bad for your car and if you have to worry about puddles and water on and in your filter then thats too much worrying because it will be there everyday, unless you live in a state where its sunny 24/7.

i know you could argue with me all day about this but just listen to what i have to say and if you disagree then disregard it.

plus thats why we have cars because we love them, why hurt them?

I need a cam, I have the final solution on my car. For the past month it has been the bomb. Official real cold air intake. No exhaust piping, no pvc, just a real intake. I shall show you my tricks soon...oh and man, after seeing this thread again, ugh, my car looked like ass before. Can't wait to get some damn pics up. :D
