I started another thread but got no answers. I have a chance to get a good deal on a Snow Performance stage 2 water/meth injection kit. I'm running a big 16g with a stock sidemount right now. Knock is becoming a problem with the Summer season. Water/Meth injection is a little scary. Only because if there is a problem with the system, then it becomes a huge problem.

I understand I can run only water if I want, how would this compare to a FMIC as far as cooling temps? Understand also that every set up is a little different but how well does a Water only injection help to keep IAT's down?

If I were to use Water and Methanol, would I absolutely have to tune the car for the extra Octance caused by using Meth? Or could I just run the same tune and just use the Meth/Higher Octane to help reduce knock?

Only reason I ask is if the system fails for any reason, my motor wont blow up due to the high octane tune im running! I might start knocking a little becuase intake temps would obviously go up if it failed, but I wouldn't blow up my motor running too aggressive of a tune!

If that makes any sense? Any help at all would be really appreciated!

Edit: This is on a DD, so if yall say just to run a FMIC i'll hold out and wait on a good deal for one. I dont mind putting in the work for dialing in the Meth/Water.

Goals are around 350 whp running about 23 psi.

For 350hp I would skip the hassle of a meth system and just go with a fmic. Meth, when used/tuned correctly, works awesome. Most meth systems now have failsafe devices. Keep in mind that the meth system won't activate until a certain boost pressure so if it does fail and you're not hitting that boost pressure that it's set for then it won't really have negative affects.

Well the only real reason I was considering the Water/Meth route is because the person I know is selling a complete kit for 150 bucks. Is it really that much of a hassle?

Seems like there is always pros and cons. With the Meth, though, a higher ocatane is always a plus. Which is a big factor.

Do I absolutely have to tune for the extra octane? Or like before, can I just use that higher octane to help fight knock with the same tune I have for straight 93 pump?

It's not too much of a hassle but installing a fmic is easier and you don't have to keep filling up the meth tank LOL.

You'll definitely need to get a new tune for WOT with meth because you'll be introducing that higher octane into the mix and it'll be a richer mix.

Okay that helps a lot.

What about running just straight water injection? I understand a FMIC will help flow more air with less restriction, but seems like the water injection would help keep intake temps down better then a frount mount.

In the interest of clarity, you aren't re-tuning for the additional octane, you are re-tuning for any fuel that gets added. The higher the concentration of methanol in the mix, the more "off" your tune will be.

You may want to look into pre-compressor water injection, if you are only wanting to lower IAT's.

Well i had the same thoughts as you op, but i ended up getting two tunes done, one for running on meth and another one just for pump, i have an aquamist setup, and ill i have to do is click the button on my aquamist gauge, and it changes the tune over to my methanol tune, the nice thing about this, if there is any type of flow problem, it will automatically change back over to the other tune and shut the system off.
