I've got a guy who has a 97gsx that's got a tranny missing out of it but runs. looking to acquire this car but wanna know my options as far as getting it mobile. will the 1g awd tranny work? I realize its still a 4g63 but I'm thinking the mounts would be different. also can't I just through a gst tranny in there to drive it for the time being until I can find an awd transmission for it?

Noe it absolutely will not work. IT will bolt to the engine, buy you will not have front and rear mounts, or anywhere to bolt a mount to. On a 1g the mounts bolt to the engine block, on a 2g they bolt to the transmission. The 1g transmission doesn't have the holes to bolt the mount to.

You can use a 2g fwd transmission but your going to have to disconnect the drive shaft. You can also use a tran from a 95/96 awd but your going to need the transfer case from that year also.

You CAN use a 90-94 transmission in a 95-96 by swapping the bellhousing (which, in the real world, means swapping the guts from one case to the other). If you are going to use it in a 97-99 car, you have to deal with different diff. ratios - I am not an expert on this.

I have a '91 Galant VR-4 Transmission and transfercase with a 95 GSX bellhousing, which I confirmed worked with an email to ShepTrans before attempting to Frankenstein into my beast

It isn't really a 1g transmission at this point. It is half the case from a 2g with the other half 1g with 1g internals.
