I did a boost leak test on my car.... Found a big leak where j pipe meets turbo... It was my j pipe it was warped... So I bought a new one from ebay bolted it up... come to find out the holes on the turbo were stripped! So I tapped new holes with a 3/8 tap... I used 3/8 bolts from home depot & crushed washers... Will that be ok? I already bolted it up... Everything runs fine but in the long run....

Thank guys!
Mark

I use a nice thick homemade gasket for the jpipe. The flange is easy to warp so thicker gaskets can take up the irregularities of the surface, therefore no need to crank hard on those bolts to keep a good seal

Iugrad92turbo, I'll keep that in mind.... Thanks you for thIe info buddy! So cooper crush washer right?

NHerron, so what do you use to make the gasket?

One more thing guys, If I boost leak tested from the turbo will that be ok for the whole system? Or do I have to do the tb to check for leaks at the top....

Thanks again!

You can get them at the local auto store. They are a variety of thicknesses / material for different applications, usually about 5 sheets a pack for around $6.

A boost leak test starting at the compressor inlet tests the whole system. When doing the test, make sure to set the engine to 30* ATDC *so the valves aren't in overlap. Otherwise air might go out the exhaust

30* ATDC would be about 2 inches counterclockwise from the mark in the crank pulley, lined up to the 0* mark on the plastic cover.
