that clear coat is prety bad only fix is wet sand with 150 grit untill all your clear coat is off and respray it. if you dont want to do it yourself take your car to MACO im not really sure if they do just hoods and bumpers, but call and ask, i see that as the best option.

I've personally never been able to find a good soluton to fading and peeling clearcoat other than sand it off and respray with clear. But getting the clear off without taking off the basecoat can be heard. Is it just the hood and bumper? If so you could take them off, sand down to good paint, and then respray with factory colored basecoat and clear. It won't be 100% matching but it'll look much better.

These guys are very decent priced and the paint quality is great. I'd say a quart or two of basecoat and clearcoat would be enough to cover the hood and bumper.

mine was also doing that, not as bad, so i sanded it all down with 500 grit til the clear and base coats were no longer there then took it to maaco. it wasnt that bad i had the whole car sprayed for $650 with myself doing all the prep work, turned out really nice..jus a suggestion..

Like he said said the whole clear coat than use 500 grit lightly. Clean completely with dawn or something like that. Rinse with water real good
after that make sure it's dry and in a area where you can apartment where no dust or bugs can get to( I made a tent with that clear plastic sheets you can get at Lowes). I used the spray paint at Walmart. Forgot the name. Make sure you have shaken the cans well and try to cover the whole Hood as fast but as nice as you can. After you have put a couple coats on and you like how it looks make sure you tape the corners and edges when you reinstall so you don't mess up the paint. If you get anything like dust into the paint. Use 1200 to 2000 grit to sand it out.
Any other questions I can answer I had to paint a whole car with spray paint in my garage and it is almost flawless. That's to some guy at his school put a big scratch on the trunk.

would the spray cans work? im not sure what grit to use just to take off the clear coat because the basecoat is still good its just the clear that is bad. should i wet or dry sand it?

get an estimate for a body shop they can paint your hood and bumper and buff the rest of the car. they would blend the color into the fenders so you would never be able to tell that it had been painted.

The spray can will work use 500 grit around The edges where The clear coat is coming off. Than use wet sand 1000the whole panel. Than clean it really good. Then clear it.

spray cans will only work temporarily the paint is softer than paint used for cars so anything gets on the hood its ruined, scrathes and nicks will happen faster than u can blink just paint your car.

It's not really necessary to paint the whole car it it just the clear coat. I painted a whole car with spray paint and it's still holding up great. You just got to put a couple of layers of clear as you would painting it right just not as many times.

If the clear has been missing in certain areas for a while, the base color may actually be dead and have to be resprayed. Talk to a quality paint shop to see what your options are.

i work for a body shop plus went to college for auto body and auto restoration your paint is past repair strip it down and respray. i would strip it with 180 gritt or so re seal it with value shade 3 or 4 im going to guess due to its red 2 coats of color and 2 coats of clear and you would be on your way no need to blend long as you have a shop mix the paint and they have your vin and paint code.
