This must be a really really stupid question but I can't figure it out, and haven't been able to find other threads that answer it either.

With all the snow etc around here lately I figured I should check/fill my windshield washer reservoir. I don't remember if I've ever even done it before. All it says in the owner's manual is that it is in the "luggage compartment" (or something like that).

After much searching I was able to find the tank in the hatchback under the spare tire. However I can find no cap or top or anything remotely like that to add fluid to it. It only has two small hoses (I believe one for front and one for back windows) and one big hose thing that runs up under the rear plastic stuff. Definitely from what I can see I don't think I am supposed to remove any of these hoses and try to add anything there.

I've removed the parts of the plastic on the sides of the trunk and anywhere else that it looks like it is supposed to be removed, but I can't find anything that looks like something to be "filled" or where that big black hose goes (in case that is what I am supposed to add fluid to where it comes up in some unknown place).

As it turns out the reservoir looks pretty full, but I'd still like to know how to add fluid for another time. Can anyone enlighten me? THANKS.

I'll try to include a photo attachment to this post as to what I'm looking at.

I'm pretty sure there's a filler cap on the door sill of the hatch. At least that's where it is on a 1g. Haha I bet you're gonna feel dumb.

Edit: Too slow...

Pop the hatch, its on the left side where the hatch seals against the quarter panel. There is a little cap there.

Awesome thanks. I actually did look there. I took everything off in the trunk that I could looking for a filler tank until I finally found it under the spare tire but then couldn't figure out how to add anything to it.

I saw a big black "nipple" behind that piece on the left side near the panel that you mentioned. I had no idea what it was for. If I understand right I just take that off and pour the stuff down there. That must be where that big black hose in my photo goes to....

I can't believe there is no mention of this in the owner's manual - how were we supposed to know this???? Crazy. Thanks a ton.

i found a condom in my hidden compartment :(

dont know about other 2g owners, but I had to ziptie the hoses because they would leak. you might want to do that too if you find that your washer fluid is disappearing every day.

You don't need to pull the hose big black fill hose off. Look in the left hatch drip rail (right where the trunk line meets the body line, there will be a small channel that runs from the top of the hatch down to the rear of the car for drainage). You'll find a small cap like this. Yours will look a bit different, as this is a plug. Pop the cap off and pour the fluid down in there.

Here's a photo of my left secret compartment and what I think is my car's plug thingee.

PICTURE

Couldn't be any clearer; desciption and picture! :applause: :thumb:

I actually have never filled this reservoir, but it is always full; since the cap has a airhole in it, when the rail overflows (everytime we have one of the famous dutch rain storms :p) the reservoir is automatically filled. And since I don't use it very often it is always refilled before I reuse it...

Only problem is that in the winter the reservoir will freeze since the water dripping in mixes with the antifreeze, till the point that there is too little antifreeze left.... meaning that in the winter I can't use it, because the only way to add antifreeze is removing water that is already in it... which in the winter isn't possible.. since it's frozen.... :ohdamn: 'Kif; We have a conundrum...!' :p

That is the top of your rear shock :p

Sigh.

OK. I am back to square one. Where the $*#@ exactly is this goddam thing in a '99 Eclipse GSX?

Do I have to remove all of the inner plastic stuff that surrounds everything in my trunk to find this? I don't understand.

Thanks.

I am truly an idiot...all this talk of hidden compartments threw me off track...now that I see it, I don't see how I could have missed it. Hidden in plain sight...

Don't worry, I couldn't find mine either for a good 15 min of staring under the hood... Gave up and opened the truck for something else and there it was.
