My fuse box relocation (project log)

Sweet thanks, the fall is here so im going to take the approach you did to your build once again it really made me re think the goals for my car, and the next project i do. My main goal is to clean it up everywhere inside and the engine bay especially, then do the exterior again later.

Very impressive man.. I like it alot.. I gave me alot of ideas.. Im not going to go full out like you did but im going to hide and relocate my wires and those connectors are sick.. Im defidently going to use them.. Good shit

The ecu harness was shortened by about 4ft. so I had all of those wires as spares. I used those wires to extend the fuse box harness wires that were too short. Most of them I could match colors exactly and the others I just got as close as I could (while keeping the wire gauge the same). It wasn't really a big deal having the colors off since the ends of the wires are still the original color and the extension is in the middle. I also made pinouts for all of my new connectors so I know exactly where each of those wires goes. The connectors are numbered so it's easy to make pinouts.

I used different color wires i just labled them, when i put them in the car, i cut it in two places it took time but i got the results i wanted. ERic you going to the shootout next year? i would love to see it up close, if i got mine done i could show you how i did my mine, the 1g fuse box is small and out of the way but now its not there.

Highly doubtful I'll be at the shootout. And if I did go I would have to find some way to tow the car there. I don't want to put all that mileage on it since I'm limited to 5000 miles per year to remain emissions exempt.

What are the two lines in the middle that loop around into each other. I removed them when i took out my emissions and just wanted to make sure it wasnt important.

If your talking about the steel lines with a little bit of a rubber line at each end, that is probably your power steering lines.

Eric, this thread really is epic! You have a TON of work into your car! The wiring process is something that I was thinking about tackling this winter, but will likely start with basic parts of it first (battery relocation and kill switch) so that I can guarantee myself to be racing in spring. I am truly impressed with the extreme attention to detail and all the hard work you have devoted to your DSM!

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Tim! Now that these wiring harnesses are done I'm kind of looking forward to rewiring the rest of the car in the future :p

You took quite a few of my ideas...

Looks pretty good

We have taken the wiring one step further, I'm impressed tho, so few people do it.

Wire loom - 1/8" through 1.5"
Techflex cable wrap (7) sizes / per Foot / 1/8 inch to 2 inch

Wire clips -
Wire Loom Routing Clips
1/4"Od 3/8"Id Wire Loom Routing Clips
Wire Loom Routing Clips

These are nice because they're quick release. On a few of them I had to shave the plastic off a little on the inside so they didn't grip so tight. Very easy to modify with a hobby knife, and they fit perfectly in the stock holes.

2:1 heat shrink - various sizes
Ballenger Motorsports - High Performance Electronics

I only used this for wrapping the loom near connectors. I used the 3:1 adhesive line stuff on solder joints and for general wiring use.

Ya there are a few pics there LOL :hellyeah:

but it does show alot of the details in your wiring. When you originally showed me the wire loom I was kinda doubtful of its effectiveness, and I still worry about moisture and dust... BUT it does look really good right now clean.

Hopefully it stays dry!

Had an issue with the downpipe/o2 housing fitting right:

Had an issue with the alternator belt:

The ecu harness still isn't fully loomed because I want to change a few things around.

Finished installing everything and filled all the fluids. Unfortunately, the welds on my water pipe and thermostat housing both had pinhole leaks so they'll have to come back out to get replaced :notgood: Although, ever since we first filled the engine with water we haven't seen them leak again WTF Primed the engine and it started the first try :D

Drove it around the block a couple times then filled the p/s fluid up. Followed this method, then used the complete method in the FSM to bleed it.

Also aligned the car with 4 jackstands, a ruler, and some string. It worked out surprisingly well and the car tracks straight and steers great. I still don't have front sway bar end links so it feels a little weird cornering.
