I'm wondering if the size of my intake is choking my motor as much as I think it is. I have a SBR G50 turbo @15psi, and it hits full boost around 5k. My intake is a Extremepsi 2" with cone filter. So, how much of a difference do you think a larger 3 or 4 inch intake would make? Does anyone have any documented occurences of change in spoolup from a bigger intake pipe?

Thats good, but I was wondering moreso about spoolup characteristics. Such as when someone switches from a smaller diameter pipe to a bigger one on the same setup and not the difference in spool up time.

Well I know i noticed a difference on my car by switching to a dejon 3" intake pipe on my 16g, spoolup came a couple hundred rpms quicker also clean your air filter if its dirty, i logged both changes on DSMlink and i managed a couple more lbs/min of airflow with the intake pipe and clean filter. Its not a seat of the pants difference for me, but DSMlink doesnt lie as far as the numbers are concerned.

I don't know about pipe size making a difference, but I can (from DSMLink logs) tell you that the filter makes a difference on fuel trims.

My setup using the HRC side mount IC w/hard pipes in factory configuration running the K&N FIPK would cause issues with the LTFT when the fans kicked on. You could actually feel the air being disrupted bouncing off the upper pipe a swirling into the back right hand side of the filter (next to the MAS) which would create a rise in LTFT settings, when the fans went off, the numbers came back down to normal.

Changed to a 3" cone and adapter and the "swirling" effect of the fans coming on is no longer hitting the filter element and my LTFTs no longer fluctuate.

Have you tried checking for a pre-turbo exhaust leak? Also I remember helping you in a post yesterday...are you sure you got your timing belt back on correctly? Being off a tooth will cause terrible spoolup on stock cams.

I've heard that it makes a significant difference in switching from a 3" intake to a 4" but I have no proof myself. Honestly though, it couldn't hurt. I'd personally go with as big as you can.

work and finals suck for sure. I felt like i noticed a big difference in the 3 inch pipe from stock. Maybe not real big, but obviously less restrictive something is the better itts going to flow and the more air that can come in. It may not be real noticable, but it's going to look good and i duno bout you all but i think every little bit counts. I have a 3" from extreme and i love the the look. I have a pic of my engine bay if u want to see.

When I installed my dejon 3" intake I noticed really no difference at all. Just it sounded louder. Boost hit at the same RPM. I just got done installing my 2g maf with a 2g stock intake pipe and there was no change really.

Well I think stock intake with 3 inch cold side and 2.5 hot and a front mount doesn't allow as much air as it was trying for. Maybe it was me hearing it suck harder. Maybe not a very noticable diff. Could be when you add mods you get it in your mind that things are going to change and even the littlest thing feels bit LOL. Either way i still say you can go long with a bigger intake.

I think this got off topic. Ok, maybe not since it stays in tune with the thread title but the problem is he spools 15psi at 5k with a 50 trim. An intake will not fix that.
Check for boost leaks and report back.
Also that pre-turbo suggestion is probably even more important than a boost leak test at this point.
Bust out the Seafoam.
