You know. There is a different way. it's "do it yourself". Sure you might bleed a little, break more things than you fix, loose a few bolts, but you don't pay $500+ in labor fees.

it does sound a lil'high though....

It's always more rewarding to do it yourself, man. Look at it this way, would you rather drop almost $600 on labor, or drop $300 on tools and another $50 on beer and pizza for a couple local DSMers to come over and give you a hand? You've already said you're looking at a month's down time, I'd try to find some locals to give you a hand. It's the best resource you have - other DSMers.

As an example, I rebuilt my engine (with the help of my friend who helped me grow the local group), blew a hole in the tranny three days later, pulled the engine, patched the hole in the bellhousing, replaced the clutch, and got her back on the road a week later. Three days after THAT, the transmission started leaking again, and as I post this, I am talking to my insurance company about getting the car towed back to my friend's place so we can pull the tranny AGAIN and fix whatever the hell is wrong with it. Yeah. It sucks having to pull the engine and tranny an average of two times a week for a month now, but there is something to be said about knowing that there is nothing that can possibly go wrong with your car that you and your friends can't fix. The hardest part about the DIY approach to things is actually getting the motivaton to press on and keep fighting the evil little problems that return time and time again.

You can do it. You just have to TELL yourself that you can do it. Now get out there and find some local brothers to help you out. Shit. You could offer to just pay them to do it and still save some money.

If I get this tranny thing fixed this weekend, I'll be driving her to Anaheim from Phoenix next week. If I can do it, so can you. :thumb:

There trying to rip you off man. I payed 300 for my clutch jod and I thought it was too much. And if there trying to charge you extra for taking off the fly wheel then they are realy trying to rip you, because in order to the job right you have to re surface the old fly wheel which requires removal. So I say loook around some more you'll fond some one else for cheeper.

p.s. Oh, and make sure they give you a waranty on the labor. Just in case.

i think i am gonna end up doing it myself,my dad has a Hoist at work, but i just broke yesterday day while my car was on it, it was a good scare but no damage to my car,but yeah i don't wanna do it in my back yard but i think i might just have to,i said i was gonna go to "The Big One" and thats what ima do,but um does anybody have an idea of what i might need, like tools ?

ill get your car done for 300, gimme a pm with your # ill call you up and hopefully it can happen this week

yea im not going to be able to make it either.. i bought a used longblock since my other engine blew.. and its going to get here either friday before the meet or sometime a week later.. oh well.. everyone take pics plz

Well this weekend i was so freak pissed about not being able to go,so i got my Lazy ass up,and took it to my dads shop, picked that Crap up,unbolted the tranny, and did it myself,i ain't finshed yet cuz i am waiting on the clutch and Flywheel to come right on in,and then i can just put it on,so yes guys i am back in it for Saturday, see you guys there........ anybody know where the SFV guys are meeting and at what time? i don't wanna miss them, and end up going by myself

Thats cool that you got your job going! 500$ is your typical shop price. I think if you can do your own labor thats better for you in the long run, However ive been to a few meets here in Socal and i think that some guys should NOT approach there cars with tools in hand :nono: :tease: !
