Middletown,
New York
so I have many friends with DSMs most quite quick most have taken shortcuts and most break often.
I finally bought one. 1999 Spyder GST
Goals 12 second reliable car.
How I will get there - slowly without rushing or takinghortcuts with lots of maintenance.
In my favor- car has 70K original miles, has 3"-2.5" exhaust, turbo timer, and coldair intake already
I do have some initial questions though, I beleive the previous owner modded the car because it is running very rich. I know there may be some boost leaks, and i see light boost creep, but I still think its tuned rich. (black smoke and 16mpg)
Question 1 how do I eliminate CELs to pass inspection since I have no rear o2 or EGR. I own an OBD2 to serial cable since I tune many GM cars, can I use that cable? and what software is affordable and easy enoguh for simple tuning?
I have looked at evoscan and ceddy sites but I do not want to buy a $140 cable if I can help it. any other avenues I might investigate?
I am thinking my plan is to grab a 16g turbo and run around 20psi to stay reliable ad touch the 12s mark is that realistic?
Mod plans beyond maintenance
Walboro255, and FPR
16g 20psi (manual boost controller)
Wideband, and tuning software,
3-2.5 exhaust
B&M shifter
Tein one piece suspension
stock manifolds stock head stock bottom stock trans, upgrade clutch
Appreciate any advice.
