Hey guys, new guy here from WI! I've never had a turbo car before but I was pretty much looking for anything with a turbo in it for a while, before I found this '99 GST at a small lot across the street from my house. I drove past it everyday for about a week going to and from work, and finally had enough and stopped to ask more about it. I took it for a short drive and fell in love with it instantly. 120k on it, 9/10 inside and out. They were asking $4k for it but I got them to come down to $3.5k. Still a little pricey for having 120k on it but I couldn't resist. I'm pretty sure it's mostly stock minus a TurboXS BOV, Short Shifter, 18" chrome Enkei wheels, and a stage 2 clutch, but the dealer didn't know what kind, and K&N cone filter. The first thing I'm doing is brakes as they are about 50% worn, then a transmission service, and belts and hoses. Soon after gauge cluster w/ gauges, different BOV (the one that is on cannot recirculate back into the system) exhaust, new wheels, coilovers, fuel pump, injectors, 16g turbo, exhaust manifold, intercooler, tune, and im sure there is more that I am forgetting. Looking for about 300hp. It's not my DD, and this build will take me quite a while as I am a single dad. If you have any recommendations for me, please feel free to comment and assist me! Anyways I'm sure your sick of me babbling so here she is!

Oh and BTW everyone seems very informative here, and fairly friendly! Much appreciated!

I'm at work and that is the only picture I had with me, but if there is enough light in my garage I will snap a pic or 2 when I get home. Otherwise look for more pics tomorrow! And I have only had it for 3 days, so I have not even had time to clean up the bay, or even give it a bath.. No laughing at the grungyness! ;-) looking around the forums, man some of you have some extremely clean engine bays!

Welcome, Nice and Clean.

Hope you have a great time with your new found turbo addiction, once you go boosted you'll never drive another car and feel the same way.

I've got a little girl at home here myself which always takes up a lot of time, but the best part is when the days are nice enough for her to come play outside and help me work on the car. :)

Good pick up! You'll love boost.
I didn't have time to drop it off and garage it before I went to work the day I bought it, and that drive to work was the most fun I have ever had driving a car! I have it garaged now because of the snow, and after 2 days now I'm already getting the itch to take it out! I must resist though, I don't want salt touching it!

My daughter is 5 and she actually noticed this car before I did. I had a really nice Lincoln LS that I sold before this winter, and she was actually sad I got rid of it. She absolutely LOVED helping me wash it, and work on it. We drove past it one day and she said "Get that car dad it's soooo cool!" I told her I would, but it's probly not turbo, and she just looked at me like I was retarded. I actually ended up seeing it on craigslist and saw it was a GST, and was sold on it because she wanted me to get it. I tell her it's her car too. Who knows, maybe in 11 years it WILL be her car! :thumb:

Trust me, it's hard to resist driving it. Garage kept my 1.8T GTI(I don't own a DSM yet) for a while but now I'm driving it:ohdamn:But as always, keep boosting my friend.

Nice pickup. My brother had a 99 gst (barcelona red, I love that color) and was pushing 300-350 hp. That car was a blast to drive. Fair warning though, the fwd cars are tire fryers when they start making power. First and second gear were useless past half throttle in his car. Btw, if you have the silver faced gauges I would keep them, I hear they are hard to come by.

Welcome! I am new to turbos and dsm's as well... I know what you mean about your daughter. My daughter will be 5 in April and when she is riding with me, she will say "Momma go fast!". If it was up to my daughter, we would be going fast all the time and I would have speeding tickets everywhere! LOL

Thanks for the warm welcome! My daughter loves going fast too but I also try my best not to! Luckily my daily driver is a Nissan Sentra 1.8L and it is about as slow as they come. :sosad:

Here is the engine shots that were requested, the lighting in my garage sucks, so this is the best I could do for now. If the snow stays away I will get better shots, and maybe it will be nice enough to clean my garage, and get rid of all of the junk that has collected during the winter, from when there was no car in there! :ohdamn:

Also a quick question the TurbXS BOV came with the car its non circulating only. If I can find a hose to connect it to the plugged part of the intake, will this work until I can buy a different one? Heres what I'm talking about:

And here is the rest of the engine bay, hopefully to be cleaned by the end of the weekend:

I was also wrong in the OP. It's a crappy Spectre filter not K&N. This will be the first thing to go. Autozone parts are not my thing unless they are OEM.
