Guess I'm one of the lucky ones with an older PS2 that gets Disc Read Errors when putting in GT4. All other games work fine for me. For some reason, GT4 is the only game that won't play. I've read that older PS2's have this problem. Lovely. Get all excited about a new game and can't play it. I can see having to upgrade your PC to handle new games, but upgrading a console? Give me a break!

I'm betting Sony will repair it for me for twice as much as a new PS2 and will take 2 months to do it. Great product. :thumbdown

I called sony and the had me send it to them and they fixed it for free and sent it back. It worked for a week. I call again and they sent me a refurbished one and then I sent my old one back for free. It lasted almost a month. I called again and they sent me a brand new one, did I metion for free. Sure it was a bit of a hassle but it worked out ok.

Mine used to do that exact same thing with GTA3. Frustrating, to say the least. :thumbdown

yeah i have the same problem... i bought my PS2 a few months after they came out... it stopped reading Gran Turismo 3...so i quit playing that game, then it did it to a couple of EA Sports games i have, then it did it to San Andreas 3 weeks after i got it... now i bought an Xbox... but i really do wish my PS2 wasnt such a pile.

Hmmm, maybe I'll try calling.

My PS2 has been 100% reliable, had for 4 years, maybe 5. My brother's Xbox has had problems reading most games since he got it, finally we did a CD drive swap to a Samsung drive, which was a hell of a lot faster. Also, he plays Morrowind :)rolleyes:) and Ive watched him playing it, the Xbox can barely handle it. It constantly has read errors and randomly locks. Long Live PS2 :thumb:

Maybe you could take it into one of those gameshops and sell them your old ps2 and buy a new one?

Yeah, i just bought a new slim PS2 since my other one is in my jeep. i likey!!

Mine did the same thing when i got GT4 so i took my PS2 apart and cleaned the lens off on the inside with a q-tip and some rubbng alcohol. Works like a charm now. :thumb:
Yeah, I have one of the 1st shipment(SC-30001 I think) PS2's, then it decided to not read 90% of my games. Removed the case and some other bits and cleaned the lense with rubbing alcohol. Has worked great ever since.

Just open your PS2 and calibrate the laser, its simple to do and thats why its not reading your game. I'll try and see if i find the tutorial again in case you want to try it. You could also buy a replacement laser and change it yourself they usually go for $50-60 on ebay or some websites
