GT4 Downsides

As great a game as it is, there are quite a fewbugs, quirks, and just plain annoying features. I know everyone hates the screen jumping. I'll start. I wrote this whole post while waiting a minute and ####ing thirty seconds for the god damn handicap to count down so I can start a race in one of the driving missions

Don't get me wrong, I love the game to death, but there are a few things that make you think "WTF were they thinking!?!"

I agree with the penalty for hitting something, but I don't agree with how they went about it. I really wish they would make the car handle differently, that would be a lot better. I wish the AI cars would not HAVE to have the line. Instead of driving into me or rearending me, know that I'm in front of you and compensate for it, just like I have to do for you. Add more cars to races, 6 cars just isn't enough, make it 10 cars. Bring back practice and qualifying options. This way when we are racing at a new track we can practice it before we race. Some say thats what arcade mode is for, but arcade mode doesn't have all the tracks. Plus, I want to test that particular car on that particular track.
Show burnouts or skid marks when we crash, lock up the breaks or launch hard.

This is a dumb complaint, and maybe there is a way to fix it but:
I hate that you cant have the tach and speedo displayed when you do the out of car view during a race. I always play that way and they have a stupid line tach so you can't tell your rpms.

I don't like the "running" starts, I wish it was from a stand still... or at least not have to wait 30+ seconds before you start every race...

the screen jitter thing is weird, and I think cars understeer a little too much but its prolly because I don't have a wheel yet...

Only real complaint I have is the interface where you select where you want to go. Way to scattered out and counfusing at first. GT3 interface was much better IMO.

(We really can't do anything about negatives so just try to enjoy the game! )

The only problem I've really noticed so far is that I can't get it to work with HD Advance. I hate waiting for games to load. If anyone knows a way to make it work you can PM me and it would be greatly appreciated. I tried enabling all the different modes that you sometime have to do with other games and it didn't work.

I havent been able to get it to work yet either. Ive tried all three modes. Usually if a game doesnt work the first try, the 3rd one usually fixes it.

But yah, way too many load times, if I had GT4 on my HD those load times would be non-existant :thumbdown

The game is dual layer which means you must install the game via pc then put the HD back in the ps2.

So waht? Rip GT4 into an ISO then put it onto the PS2 HD? I have that program that recognizes the PS2 hd format. I hate swapping game cds, my PS2 Dvdrom cant take it :laugh:

The fact that you get a 5 second penalty for hitting a competitor, but they don't when they hit you. Really erks my crawl. :thumbdown

you guys are funny. Don't bother trying to do a copy to copy or ripping GT4 with HD Advance. GT4 has a copy protection program that will prevent you from doing a backup copy. Even the chinesse bootlegs have the encryption since they are "pressed" and not burned. You will have to wait a bit until some warez group releases a kit that gets around the encryption or patches it. Other than that you will have to buy the game no matter what

i dont like how some of the races they start you with a rolling start. Plus I dont like the fact that you have to have your memory card insereted to switch between cars. I mean what about if you want to buy a car to try it out and then decide that its not what you want? Like in gt3 you would buy a car and mod it out and stuff, and if you dont like it you just reload your game. Here it wont let you do it. plus i dont like it how there is threadware in every godamned race.

I cant do doughnuts anymore. I have all the aids off, I will be in a 350hp RuF, floor it, and turn and it will just smoke the tires while not doing a doughnut. Whats up with that?

Probably the absolute worst part of GT4 is the AI. THey have not improved one bit since GT3. What the heck have the developers been doing all these years! If you want to look at good AI, go play LFS. The AI in LFS learn from you. THe faster you get the faster they get. They dont stick to one certain line and follow each other like they are on rails. They are probably the best AI I have ever seen in a sim and they were created by 3 guys. How many people made GT4? Hundreds? Come on, I expected more! [/rant]

I agree with the guys about the AI. It HAS to have the line, and heaven forbid you try to move them off the line. You would have an easier time moving the walls of the track. I had to ram an AI at a speed difference of 50+ MPH to knock him out of the line. And they will not adjust for you - they just push you out of the way. Add that to the missions where you get penalized for coming in contact with the other car and it makes for some interesting corners
But don't get me wrong, I still love this game :laugh:

Thats not the problem here. I KNOW it will be released eventually. But the dvd9 game is 6.9gigs. So unless you have a dual burner then you will have to wait until whichever group rips and downsamples movies and music so it can fit in a dvd5. Thats if of course the group makes it their priority to release gt4 in dvd9

Has anyone else noticed the damn glitches in this half finished game? everytime i'm passing between two cars the entire screen shakes and graphics breakup until i get through. I've also noticed this on races with the ghost car and at the beginning of some rolling start races. There also seems to be two black lines that come across the screen during replays. The guy who made this game is supposed to be some sort of perfectionist; this game is far from it. I probably wouldn't be so dissappointed, but I did have the game reserved over a year ago, with the understanding that online play and the 'perfect driving game' would be my reward for patience. They also broke my heart with no 1st gen again. Next time i guess i won't expect so much from the 'ultimate racing simulator' next time.

Yeah am surprised too with that glitch thing from the screen. At first i thought it was my tv or my monster component cable but i guess not. Am assuming they were so pressed for time already they couldn't afford to delay it again. Small price to pay i guess. But i still love the game to death as the glitch doesn't happen so often

Omg seriously, if I want to buy a car to mess around then I have to keep it? That's crap, I was trying to mess with the autosave thing but there is only "always" and "restricted"...restricted meaning that it'll only save "automatically" when I get in a car which isn't exactly restricting anything.

That's probably my biggest problem with the game, also the fact that they put an ESi but not a TSi bugs me too but I can live with that. The Tuner Village is completely useless...the only reason to go there is to buy one of their cars, buying parts from HKS, Spoon, etc doesn't make any difference. The AI doesn't really bug me because I'm used to them always being like that ever since the beginning but it would be nice for them to be able to think.

Overall I still like the game, it is a little more challenging physics wise but it's still fun.

i would also like to see a 1g in the game :thumbdown. and an awd dsm. (im not that far yet tho maybe one hasnt been available to me yet ) also, for being such a complex game, the "instructions" do very little instructing. most if it tells you what the game CAN do, but now HOW to do it.


granted there are a handful of dissapointing things about this game, and its not as perfect as expected, but who can really argue that this isnt the best racing sim they've every played.
