td04hl vs td04?

So I just noticed for the first time that I have two different 13g's.

1 Is stamped TD04HL. Has single looking blades. Nothing special.

The other is stamped just TD04. It has the regular blades, but then like a extra behind each one. SO it appears to have double the blades.????????

Any idea whats up with that?
 
I had to google search it again..it says they made a 9b tdo4..A 13g tdo4, A 15g tdo4..And an 18T tdo4h..

What are the serial numbers?I have some site up with tdo4-h-l-hl serial numbers.
 
Tdo4 and tdo4L refer to the turbine wheels (exhaust side). The tdo4 you have are the same turbine fins for a 3kgt, and were put on auto 1gs(just refering to the turbine shafts). The tdo4Ls were on some JDM 4g63 autos. Both turbo are like reliable t25s. The difference you see in these stock turbos is that the TDO4 for an auto 1g is a 13g and the TDO4L for the JDM motors are 13Ts.
 
So 13g and 13t's are basically better t25's Austin? With boost at idle almost?

I remember what spool was like on 13g...You could get some boost in reverse if you wanted too..LOL

Judging my the size of the wheels they would flow similar to a t25, but the reliability of MHI turbos is much great than the t25 design. The tdo4 series turbos arent made to flow above 39 lb per minute upgraded. I thought these turbos were smal but then i found out about the tdo3 series off of an 80's yamaha motorcycle and BMW 325i L6 twin turbo.
 
The compressor fins are different is what I'm referring to not exhaust.

TD04 = 47.0mm in, 40.0mm ex
TD04L = 47.0mm in, 41.3mm ex
TD04H = 52.0mm in, 44.2mm ex
TD04HL = 52.0mm in, 45.6mm ex

Unfortunately there is no consistency between what is stamped on the cover and what the turbo actually has for a turbine wheel.

I rebuilt a pair of TD04HL hybrids for a 3000GT customer earlier last summer- both had clipped turbines that were a bit larger than a standard TD04. I can only assume this was a TD04HL as I never really measured them to see what they were....only the CHRA's were shipped, and I was under the gun to get them done rather quickly.

Now I also have a 13G at the shop right now that has TD04HL on the cover, but it has a TD04-spec turbine and a 13G compressor instead of a 13T. Standard 5cm 1G auto turbine housing fits this turbo as well as another 13G which has TD04 on the cover.


Another thing to note is that the 5cm turbine housings which come from the factory on DSM 13G's is smaller than the .49 turbine housing on T25's from a manual-trans 2G. The T25, despite a more unreliable thrust system, will actually have more turbine flow than a 13G.
