Ok i have noticed on ebay they have the 60-1 wheel and compressor cover kits that bolt up to our mhi turbos. My question is where will be the choke or limit of the td05h exhaust wheel with this compressor ? I know that this wheel is normally mated to the td06-tdo6h exhaist wheel ! Thanks.

Donnie hit the nail on the head.

The TD05H turbine would get the 60-1 compressor spooled faster than a larger turbine would, so the compressor would begin to make enormous airflow under engine loads that are not great enough to consume air rapidly (example- climbing a gradual hill in 5th gear). The result would be compressor surge out the ass.

One the flipside, the small TD05H turbine will never flow enough to support the high 50's lb/min that the 60-1 compressor is good for, so having that much compressor potential would be a huge waste in resources in the form of added lag.....a 20G-powered car would run all over you.

To explain how much turbine flow is needed to support a 60-1 compressor, the old FP Red used a TD06H turbine clipped 15* in a machined factory 7cm turbine housing.

It would probably surge horribly, and end up flowing as much as a 20g.

Thats about what i thought. well i really like the ebay kit that has the tdo5h compressor cover and kamak 20g compressor wheel so i may look into that when i get done having fun with my evo 3 16g and it will still look stock. hey justin whats the trade off between the tdo5h and tdo6 covers, isn't the tdo6 more efficent on pump gas. Thanks

Biggest we ever ran on the 5H was the old 46trim T04E wheel, even then it didnt really run any better than a 20g 5H did.

Most would say there is a improvement even with the 20g wheel in running a turbine larger than a 5H, thats just a lot of inlet area and not a lot of outlet area. the 20g 6 or 20g 6H works well. And the more modern 6H4 with 11 blades works even better.

anything you run with a 5H is gonna have to work well at really high shaft speed, so think small diameter high flow high speed compressor when you look to a 5H turbine for power.

I'm figuring this also works in reverse- where an oversized turbine mated to a smallish compressor wheel will not allow the compressor to reach peak speed and achieve maximum airflow. I honestly believe this is one of the reasons the old Bullseye Power V-Trim would surge like hell and hardly outflow a 16G on our cars.

Thanks guys, i appreciate all the advice. My thoughts was that the 60-1 wheel would build boost faster than the 20g and maybe peak about the same and then when i wanted i could upgrade to a tdo6 or tdo6h exh wheel !

The South Park episode with the pot belly pig and the elephant comes to mind...
