Long story short, my older 60mm inducer H1E was going strong, but after all this controversy about oil feed and return for Holsets, I switched to feeding it from the head, WITHOUT checking the pressure first.... BAD IDEA... So after several thousand miles going strong and being fed from OFH and switching it to head, the turbo was starved for oil and developed HUGE UP&DOWN shaft play.... It was time for a new one.:hmm::hmm::hmm:

With the help of some members here, Matt AKA dsm-onster and Justin AKA jusmx141,who actually sold me this BRAND NEW HX-40 PRO, I was back on track almost in no time at all. Dealing with Justin was pleasure, in difference with some other people I dealt with. Ultra fast response, via PM, fast shipping/good packing/. It took 1 day to get it done. That is how I am doing my part, if I sell something and expect everyone else to do so.

The turbo arrived in no time, so I took the comp. cover OFF and went to weld an elbow to it and polish the whole thing. I f.....ed up a little bit the angle, which the elbow faces, but no biggie and works fine. I switched the oil feed back to the OFH with -4 AN line and a steel fitting from Extreme PSI. I welded the fitting shut and drilled it with 0.070 bit in the middle and 0.080 at the very end/facing turbo/, to correct the volume a little, or so I think. I had to use a copper crush washer, between fitting and CHRA, because these fittings from Extreme PSI are fine, but the nut in the middle is a little smaller and doesn't cover the hole completely/ I had a leak from there before/.
After several days, taking my time, everything was on nice and tight. I do not have much room between the fan and motor mount, but clears fine. Even this turbo is brand new, from my prvious experience with my older WH1E, the only boost leak/very minor/ I had , was from snap ring between comp. cover and backing plate, so I put high temp silicone there. Next thing I did was prime the turbo, connect feed line to it and start it.... Sounds awesome, no smoke whatsoever, no leaks.... Perfect :D:D:D

Along the way, I installed new alternator relocation kit/ JAY RACING/, ARC-2.paint valve cover, intake and strut bar. Also I put SS lines everywhere:
-turbo to MBC to WG / these were there before/
-intake mani to BOV-NEW
-intake mani to FPR-NEW
So I hope it should be very much LEAK PROOF everywhere...

P.S.Because of the old turbo going bad and I didn't want to drive the car like that some of the threads I started, about FMIC sprayer and some others were delayed. I apologize for that and promise, that will have results very soon.

Thank you all for reading !!! :thumb:

Wow...One of the Nicest Bays I have seen in a while....

I also notice you claimed later spool than alot of other members with your old holset...does this one spool any faster?

I planned on feeding my hx40 from the head if the guy decides to stop scamming me and send it to me. Now you got me worried. Do you have balance shafts?

You made the compressor cover look like sex, Andy. Good work!

Thanks for everything, man. I am going to contact you today, about rebuilding the old one.

Looks good, u should enter that thing in some contests, ultra clean 1g dsm~!

Thanks, Mike.

Thanks or your help, buddy:D

Thank you. I was very busy, haven't had a chance to drive with the new turbo, just started the car a few times. I want to take my time and make some logs. Also, recently all of mine TUNING ROADS, were extrememly congested for some reasons/traffic, fire, construction. And since I can't do it at night, I have to wait for another time.
I don't think my older holset was spooling slow I was getting around 22-23 PSI in 3 GEAR@ 47-4800RPM with T3- 0.70 AR BEP housing and seeing positive pressure in the intake mani a hair above 3000RPM. I was just getting a strange creep of like 2-3 PSI after car really warms up and been chasing this for months.

I don't have balance shafts and my oil pressure from OFH is really strong on start up and after that. Personally, I don't think, that many people would have sufficient pressure from the head at idle.

It is easy to check and it takes about 5 min... Buy the cheapest pressure gauge, or better yet take one OFF your FPR/ cap FPR back/. Bolt the gauge to front, or side port of the head. And ready.

There is this guy here Tim G, he is NT Mod here on Tuners. He claims, he had Daily driven his car over 20K miles, with high boost/30+ PSI/. This by far the longest I know for on a DSM.

#### man that bay is gorgeous.

Thanks for the kind words, man.LOL

Andy, how did you attach the holset center cartridge to the bep t3 housing? I have one laying here and my circular brackets do not line up against the holes in the exhaust housing (4bolt holes) Thanks

I'm not sure if yours is the same as my H1E and bolt on housing, but I had to drill extra holes on the two metal rings that hold the cartridge to the housing. The holes didnt match up on mine, and this worked great for me. Make sense?

I got the brackets from Turbo trader and everything lines up perfect... If not, you could probably use, the bolts with some thick washers... GL.

I had it like that, with my old turbo-it worked just fine.

As always the nicest dsm engine bay I have seen.

I know, especially for a 1g. I love the radiator and hose. Its real clean along with everything else.

On a side note has anyone really figured out how to safely run these holsets. What oil pressure is ideal?? I dont want to kill my hx40 within 2000miles. That kind of defeats the purpose of have buying into a cheap turbo.

It is 60mm inducer... need2boostpsi

- Thanks for the kind words, Pat.

- Jason, I killed my old one feeding it from the head/ my pressure is low/. This one I feed from OFH, with 0.70 restrictor... There is this guy Tim G, he is a NT MOD. He is been running his Holset like this/ OFH fed with some restrictor/, for over 20K miles with 30 + PSI of boost and still running strong.

This is the first I have heard of one failing from feeding from the head. With no bshafts I would have thought you would have had plenty of oil. Did you have a restrictor on it when you were feeding from the OFH and then left it on when you changed over to the head?

I haven't driven the damn thing in about 2 weeks now. I upgraded my fuel lines to 3/8" but broke my rear brake hard-lines. Regardless, I've been running this turbo for 20k+ miles without any issues. In fact the turbo started out on my car as a HX-35 and I swapped on the HX-40 compressor wheel and compressor housing one weekend and she's still boogying without any play at all.

It didn't fail, because I was feeding it from the head, it failed cause my oil pressure at the head is low, even at cold start. Before, when I fed it from OFH didn't have a restrictor and it was OK may be 7-8K miles. I removed the VC to inspect everything- Looks perfect-cams, rockers, lifters, etc.

Now I use restrictor and feel very confident... Didn't see even the smallest sign of smoke, or anything on initial start up cold start, hot idle, etc... Seems good. I primed it before I start it and that is it. Plus I think on a hot summer day my oil pressure from OFH after continious driving and boosting, will not be more than 15-17 PSI at idle. Even if I had good pressure from the head, wouldn't be enough at very hot idle at all. I think, that if anyone, who has at least 25-30 PSI at idle from OFH, then they can feed their turbo from the head, but anything lower than that, I would consider OFH. And for me 30 psi at idle is a little too much... Keep in mind, that I am using 10W-30 oil.

Anyone who is in doubt, about what pressure they have at the head is simple:
Buy the cheapest pressure gauge-$20, use female/male 1/8 NPT adapter and bolt it to the front port of the head. Its thread is 1/8 BPT, but pretty darn close to 1/8 NPT and it doesn't leak.
Better yet, if you have SD system, you could start the car without turbo on it, plug the feed line to the head and use -4 to 1/8 NPT/male-male/ and you will need a brass 1/8 NPT female adapter on both sides... After all this, you can plg the gauge at the end of the feed line and how much/if any/ , pressure drop you have.... SIMPLE..ROFLROFL
And believe me, it is worth it-cost me a new turbo. :ohdamn::ohdamn::ohdamn:

Oooh, almost forgot.. You probably read it already, but anyway.. It is good to check this oil port, IF YOUR HEAD IS OFF.
