I just wanted to get a general concensus on the 2 coatings, Swain tech's White Lightning and HPC Extreme coating. I have recently bought the FP race exhaust manifold. It a great piece:thumb:, but I would like to have it coated to reduce some of the under hood heat. They both look like they would be adequate but I would like to hear any pros or cons from the people who have used them.
Thanks

Im interested as well. I was thinking about picking up an Fp Manifold. What about JET-HOT as well? Please mention price if you've had it done and durability

Swain Tech is ceramic. It's a very good insulator and tough. I can maybe hold a finger to the turbine housing for 2 seconds before it starts to hurt.

Just to add to this, my friend has the HPC extreme coating on his Turbonetics T3 mani and it is just starting to crack after 7 yrs. Not bad if you ask me.
I did speak with Swain Tech and they quoted @ $150 - $200 for the 4 cyl main and 2.5 week turn time.

HPC coatings are cosmetic. Swaintech's white lightening coating is much much thicker.
My FP racing exhaust manifold is ceramic coated, and the bronze coating is utterly useless in controlling heat loss.

I have no experience with either HPC nor Swaintech's coatings, however I had my Turbonetics cast T3 manifold, my turbine housing and my O2 housing all ceramic coated inside and out by FFWD Connection. From the day I shipped my parts off to the day they arrived back at my door step it took 2 weeks. The pricing is very reasonable and the quality is un-beatable.

The specs for this coating are listed here: FFWD Connection - Race Injuns That Will Freeze Your Brain

I highly recommend this coating! :hellyeah:

Was it coated by swaintech, if so do you have any pics and how long has this coating been on the manifold?

Sorry, no pics. This was about 13 years ago. Swaintech used to coat the interior of the manifold and turbo with a white thin coating and the exterior with this thick mesh coating on the outside. There are a few pics on this site of Swain coated manifolds though. It looks good IMHO.

So far it looks like I will be going with Swain tech. The other coatings do not look to be as thick. It needs to reduce underhood temps so functionality is most important. Does anyone else have any input about Swain tech??
Thanks

They're very low key. They won't let you know when everything is done. When I called them to ask about my stuff, the lady said they already shipped it out. I'm like "what...?"

Swain Tech is the founder of Ceramic coatings and engineer their own coatings others outsource their coatings.

Well I rec'd the mainfold back yesterday. It looks great!!!:thumb: The coating seems substantial and looks and feels strong. I will post up pics tonight. The only downside was that the company needs to be proactive with the customer service. Just send an automated email upon receipt and when the product ships, other than that awesome. The time frame was dead on @ 3 weeks. I will definately have more items coated by Swaintech and recommend there service.

Here are the pics of the manifold.
They really did a great job.

That is how a real ceramic coating looks. All the other crap out there is purely for looks.
I'd ream or open up the stud mounting holes in the manifold cause the coating is thick enough to easily close the holes up.

Yeah, I noticed that the coating was in the bolt holes. But i have to agree, this coating is beefy compared to some of the other spay paint coatings:tease:. Like I stated before I am not too concerned with how it looked although in person it is starting to grow on me I am more concerned with the function of keeping under hood temps down and exhaust temps hot. I had ported the manifold and lightly sanded the flange before sending it out. And 3 weeks was a long time but it is the beginning of the season, people are getting things ready for the season.

CJ,

did they do the inside also. I sent mine last week I was told only outside for turbo applications. Are you still happy so far with it.

The coating is top notch. They did not coat the inside, nor would you want them to as it would decrease it inside diameter. The coating itself is rough as well so it would inhibit flow. I recently picked up a HX40 pro and want to grab a Mitsu turbine housing and have that as well as the O2 housing coated. I highly recommend Swaintech coating :thumb: as I have seen some of the other "ceramic paint coatings" an that is exactly what they are... paint. Swaintech's coating is a thick media which truely reduces underhood temps. Let me know when you get your item back and how you like it.

I had my old evo3 mani SWAIN coated... I sprayed it black, but allways used a heatshield on top of it.Used it for 2 years and after it still looked good.

I still have it, if someone is interested to get it PM me... It comes with a SS heatshield/like JMF one, but this is my design and it is even better... LMK.

They got all this done in two weeks last summer. Quite happy and still am. I'm ready to pull the manifold and send it in. I'm not too sure of the turbine housing though. It is suspected that the coating kept too much heat in and killed the old 50 trim.
