Any experience on ebay external gate/ Punishment o2 housings?

Ok

Ive always wanted to switch my shitty boost spiking internal gate setup for a decent external gate setup. I only run a E316g and its not as much as big a deal, but I am going for as much performance as I can regardless the turbo, and its hard to get a clean tune when different gears/ temp's can cause the turbo to boost differently from day to day.

I.E. Sometimes spiking 25psi in 4th or 5th gear on a tune set for 24, but only hitting 23psi in 2nd gear. Stuff like that, makes the car not very consistent, and I have to tune a tad bit more conservatively for this very reason.

Anyways, my friend sold his gst spyder and was going to run external gate but never got around to installing it, and since now he has an MR2 he didnt need his external gate anymore, so lucky me he just gave it to me for free.

This I believe is the one I have,

Right now he said theres a 10psi spring in it, I plan to switch it out for the 14psi spring.

** Is it possible to add shim's in the external gate that can increase spring tension like youd do on a bov to make it hold more.


I was thinking I want like a 18psi spring for this thing but dont think they make them for this,
( if they do point me out. )

Id like to keep minimum boost closer to set boost; as I never turn my car any lower than 20psi anyways, and theoretically that should make boost control w/ a crappy mbc even better and possibly quicker spool/ more boost holding to redline, as my current flapper right now blows open at the pressures I run and I cant seem to get anymore than 21psi at redline even on a cool night regardless of how high I crank up boost.
Im sure Im running up near the 16gs boosting limits, but I know theres still more in it.

**Anyways anyone running that Ebay wastegate? Im not well read up on w.g. setups and I didnt see anything in the search.

**Could I go better, or cheaper on o2 housings? Will 2.5 suffice.


I dont really want to dump o2, I run open DP anyways when my cutout is open so backpressure isnt as much as a factor here, and I dont need any more noise.

I havent heard nothing bad either, but would rather ask just in case.

So just to be sure, this definitly will mate to the punishment o2 housing I linked?
I wont have to worry about any fitment issues with this ebay e.w.g. and that housing?
Visually it looks to have the same flange as the Tials.

Want to be sure thats the o2 housing I should be going with before I commit to buying it.
I still have some time though, not sure when im going to order the o2 housing. Maybe in a week or 2.
 
Punishment Racing is a good shop. I had that o2 housing on my car. Worked great.

I"m using the punishment recirculating O2 with the ebay gate. It all bolted up perfectly.

I just put the stiffer one in, I think they only provide 8psi and 10psi actually, I was thinking 14 at first... How much boost have you ran on it. Does it ever spike or anything its not suppose to do. Does vacuum line from mbc connect to top nipple or the nipple on the side of the w.g.
Any pics of your setup, and how it looks under the hood and everything would be nice.

No spiking. Had a .8 bar spring in it, which allowed 24psi solid boost. At the last dyno I couldn't sustain a good boost level any higher. So I added a small .5bar spring and got rid of my forge boost controller and got a Blitz DSBC. I'm about to test it out today.

Connect the vac line to side port.
 
did you leave the top nipple on the wastegate off? I think that I read somewhere to not even attach it. Just curious I have the same setup with the ssac wg and the punishment dump o2. Haven't installed it yet but that would be a good piece of info before I do.

So you have the smaller spring inside, and you left the larger spring out correct?

From my understanding the larger spring is the 10psi spring and smaller the 8?
Ive heard that if I put them both in at the same time ( smaller spring inbetween larger)
then it will give a total of 18psi spring pressure... ( Basic math LOL.)
Is that true, or does it not work like that.

I just have the larger spring in mines right now by itself but I havent installed it yet or anything since I still need the recir o2 housing...

After opening the external; closing them things by yourself while trying to tighten the screw down is pretty tuff LOL.

Yes both springs together.

I had the top nipple before, now that I changed to the 2 springs I left it off.

The Blitz is great. :rocks:I'm getting 21 psi with just wastegate. So far I was able to get to 27psi :rocks:holding rock steady. But the popo was out in force so I had to curtail my tuning efferts.
 
I have the Punishment recirculated o2 housing and love it. They even changed the angle for mine because I have an RRE downpipe meant for the evo3 o2 housing.

You lose the driver side fan, no biggie.

RRE did the same for me. In fact I was the instigator for them to make them special for us EVO3 O2 housing guys with RRE DP to match.

I'm using two slim fans. I just moved them closer to passenger side.
 
Not even a slim fan would work? Is your AC working?

I'm about to put on the same setup btw.

A 10" slimfan would probably work. Or put it on the other side as a push fan. My a/c and condensor is removed so no, a/c doesn't work. LOL

The car doesn't run hot and I have dsmlink set to run the passenger fan all the time. If I ever see temps get up there then I'll pick up a slim fan.
 
Yea no a/c here either, so I dont have that fan.... Its just 6lbs of extra weight anyways LOL.

That punishement o2 housing looks nice. Appears to be the one I am going to buy off of their site.

Cost aside, what is the best flowing, most ideal recir O2 housing on the market that mates to this style w.g./ turbine housing?

Ive recall reading different posts in the past about different angles/ locations that a recirculated o2 housing needs to be for ideal exhaust flow as the wastegated exhaust re entered the rest of the exhaust.

Once again Im trying to get my minimum boost as close to set boost as possible.
(I run 24psi pump gas and never have reason to turn boost down much.)

I just placed an order with Punishment Racing for their o2 housing so I can run this external gate.

I got the mildsteel one, thats about 60 dollars cheaper than the stainless steel.

This is probably a goofy question, but just to make sure as I didnt talk to punishment myself,
the O2housing I just ordered should include gaskets, and possibly studs also correct? Or do I have to get all that stuff seperate, or will the current gaskets and bolts i run on my Evo3 o2 housing work?

I hope shipping is quick, cant wait to see how my 16g setup performs with an external gate and possibly retune it a little more aggressive since the boost pressure will never be finicky as it is now.

There are no studs, you have to use nuts and bolts. I can't remember what parts came with gaskets so I can't comment on that.

yea thats what I ment nuts and bults, but the one you bought from them ( the black o2 housing in the picture ) it didnt come with gaskets? Im sure I ordered the same one you displayed in the pic above...

Yep 21psi. No gaskets came with mine. You have to get nuts and bolts.
