I have found forums stating that you can weld the flapper and run a Ex. W/G that way but is it possible to take the flapper off and welding the hole shut were the flapper shalf passes through? Would this be wise or should I pay the $100 and have the turbine housing switched?

When setting a turbo up for an external gate off the o2 housing, I normally remove the whole actuator lever and flapper arm then find a piece of solid rod (can't remember if it's 1/2" or 5/8") to put in the hole in the housing where the actuator arm went through, then weld around the top.

I had acouple turbos welded up shut. Ive pretty much always ran an external off a stock 2g manifold. The turbo im running now aka 60-1 with a t4 p trim i acually picked up a internal gate block off o2 housing from punishment racing, very nice piece, saved me the trouble of blocking it off, and if i sell the turbo it gives someone else the option to go off the o2 housing with a external or the manifold.:thumb:

Why bother with all of that effort. If you've got a friend (or a shop), just hold the flapper arm/door shut against the turbine housing and tack weld (or however type of welding you'd like to do) the arm to the outside of the turbine housing. This way you can convert and manipulate the turbine housing any way you'd like down the line because all you have to do to convert back is to remove that tack weld. Another way others have done it is to weld the arm and put a couple of welds around (some have completely welded it) the entire door.

I have done it that way also, and i had a little tiny crack that let air seep by the waste gate flapper.... can you say slower spool and power loss. Block it off,so you dont have a issue. I lost 4 10ths and 5mph because of the leak. The only time i figured it out is when i put the bigger turbo on.Plus once you start digging into turbos its time to ditch the internal, screw what the other person has done.

Thanks you guys...

I was trying to see if it would be easy just to remove the flapper ad all and weld up the hole so I can run a external W/G off the o2 housing. I have a option to spend a $100 and have another housing put on when having it rebuilt.

As some of you know I just want to sleep better at night and shot for big dyno numbers and track times.
