I have an opportunity to buy a blown bb gt35r turbo for pretty cheap, but i was wondering its blown it has shaft play i guess, from what i am told. So whats the best way to go bout having a gt35r for pretty cheap. And where and how much it would cost to get rebuilt.

Call forced performance and see how much they would charge to rebuild it.

Because it's just another made in china turbo that's going to fall apart?

Oh, so you people have run these turbos and know first hand about how they perform? Do me a favor, post up where the failure point was for each of you.

You can't argue the fact that Chinese parts have a really bad reputation for falling apart. If you want to test one go for it.

Actually i can. I haven't heard a single bad thing about the OBX limited slips. I have an "ebay" O2 housing, clutch, BOV and intercooler and all are working fine.

More and more people are starting to have good luck with chinabay turbos as well. I'm sure some of the early ones were crap, and there probably still are some that are bad. But 1 compressor housing splits and people think all the thousands of others will. Some of the people who are having failures are the same people who spend 6 hours installing a downpipe- user error will always play a role. So unless you have actual information about a specific item, keep your opinion to yourself.

You build your ebay car with the same parts as mine and I bet you will be seeing my tail lights.

Sorry, I didn't think it was bench racing but I can see how some people might.

I've posted dozens of pictures of various Chinese made parts failing for no apparent reason, it's not an opinion that the products are crap, it's a fact. They use inferior parts, assembled by people with no training, in sub-standard factories, and no quality control. I'm not going to post the pictures again, you can search for them if you want to.

As for the OBX LSD's, they had a huge QC issue(big surprise) and the LSD's weren't fitting correctly. They also had machining issues with the speedo gear and issues with the axle's not fitting.

Even if the quality wasn't an issue, why buy parts from China? That is one of the largest reasons our economy sucks. We import everything, and export very little, and our money doesn't stay in our country. You're basically taking money and jobs away from your fellow americans, when you buy imported goods. I know it's not possible to buy everything american made, but there are a lot of things that you can buy that are american made, and are proven to be higher in quality, like turbochargers.

^^^Dude you drive a galant that was imported from JDM land, So you should SHHHHsh

I know it's not possible to buy everything american made

The Galant is one thing that is proven to be better. The reliabilty far surpasses the reliability of any DSM. And I did say that it's not possible to buy everything american made. I never said don't buy anything that's imported, that would be stupid. I'm just saying why buy junk parts from someplace that doesn't have any interest in helping our economy, Japan isn't one of those places. Japanese automakers actually RAISED their prices so we would be more inclined to purchase U.S. made cars, just to help boost our economy, they see the big picture, China does not.

well i didnt mean to sound like a dick but was saying. Not to sure how the galant surpasses the reliabilty of a dsm. Since all the mechanical parts of the car is pretty much the same as the galant. At least it seems. But GVR dont take a offense. I just got a lil offened by the post you posted. I see a lot better quality with japanese cars, and electronics. But since i dont think america makes electronics so.. I guess thats one thing. I will never touch a american made vehicle. The quality just seems cheap.

The point that was being discussed by the wiseman here was cheap metal parts. Chinese companies do not have the casting quality that is typical of the US or Japanese companies, as is evidenced by a lot of China-knockoffs with porous castings. They also do not have decent R&D departments like the US or (especially) the Japanese. Had anyone done any searching through this site you'd see a whole slew of threads with plenty of photos of knockoffs with extremely poor quality. Most of China is still third-world, and if you or anyone you know has ever been there, then you know what I'm talking about. At best, ordering the cheap knockoffs is a gamble. The exception would be the SSAC ebay front mount intercoolers, but then again, it's not hard to make a decent intercooler.

First, Japan is not the same as China. Japanese cars have been raved worldwide, especially here in America.

Second, how can you even classify cars into "American-made" (domestic), Japanese-made, German-made, Mars-made? Automobiles being produced today have so many factors and components of worldwide descent that no [commercially well-known] vehicle can be classified as such. Parts from Japan, Malaysia, and China coming together in an Indian or Mexican assembly plant, and being purchased by people in the US, Britain, Austria, hell even Qatar and Dubai. This argument can be saved for The Hangout or an IM service.

Third, (and this goes to the original question): As stated before, Garrett's BB CHRA's cannot be rebuilt. You can, however, order a new CHRA since you already have the rest of the turbo unit. This will cut down on costs of not being forced to buy the compressor and turbine housings and the extraneous hardware. Because the CHRA is so pricey, you may want to reevaluate your goals and determine whether you want to upgrade or buy a different turbo.

As an aside, eBay parts have been discussed ad nauseum. People can do their own research and decide for themselves if it is worth the risk. All this community can do is offer advice; if you ask a question with it answered in your head, that isn't really a question. So don't get offended if someone is putting out their personal views, because that is what this forum is all about.
