My SCM6152 has chipped turbine inducer blades and I broke 3 stainless mani bolts in the housing. So it will cost more to fix then it is worth. I did not like the spool up of it at all but the blades were chipped after all and it was not a very good pump gas turbo. Would it be a good idea to get a SCM5031E or some SCM with a stage 3 turbine and put the 61mm 56 trim compressor and cover on it or is that compressor to big for a stage 3 turbine?

If you are running what your profile says...a 2.4L with a FP4 cam'd "stage 5" race head, and only 660cc injectors with -8AN fuel lines, DSMLink, etc., I would really look at your tune first before feeling that the turbo was crap to begin with. It sounds like you were running quite lean.

As well, running a motor and head like yours, with a tiny mitsu-flanged turbo that is too small for your setup, is going to cause a big-time choke hold on the exhaust side of the situation.

First off, your turbo (with the 0.52A/R mitsu-flange) will see nothing for power increases above 26psi, and will chokehold itself from 5000-8000rpms on your setup. Along with that, you should really have a milder cam like a HKS 272; NOT a FP4 "288" cam on that small of a turbo with your low revving motor on a tiny turbo.

The 288 cam is designed to flow at HIGH rpms, and would only be useful if you had a a GT40R (T72) or larger turbo using a T4 turbine housing with at least a 0.81 A/R.

Personally, you can do a few things. First, upgrade your fuel injectors to at least an 880cc or 1000cc. Then, send the turbo back to Precision Turbo for rebuilding, and get rid of the mitsubishi flanged housing, and replace it with a 0.81 A/R T4 turbine housing with V-band discharge, and get a TiAL 44mm external wastegate and a DN Performance T4 tubular exhaust manifold. Finally, downgrade your cams to a 272/272. This setup will make around 600-630whp on 35psi, while seeing full boost around 4500rpms and the power will not stop to redline.

Too big of a cam with too small of a turbo on a 2.4L is going to cause issues.

Also, if you step down to a 50-trim, expect to also downgrade your cam to a 272/272, and expect to have a car that acts like a 16G. You will have full boost around 2000-3000rpms, and will have nothing past 5500-6500rpms.

I will be going with FIC 1150's next but my injectors are the least of my worries right now. I'm more into road racing now then drag racing so I don't want a laggy turbo anymore. My taste are just changing. I have my eye on the S256 or S258. It will cost me $600 to $700 just to rebuild it and put a T4 housing on it, do you really think it is worth it?

Tim Zimmer just gave you great info for a mean pump gas ride and a even meaner race/meth ride. Keep in mind ud need atleast 950-1000cc injectors check out FIC they work great w/very minimal problems. I think Tim was a little over-zealous on the spoolup numbers with the T4, 35psi wont be had by 4500 on a .081 t4 hotside, probley along the lines of 4900-5100, depending on your motor...compression ratio etc. Keep in mind just upgrading to a simple t3 .63 or .82 hotside, will net you huge gains on the top end, while keeping pump gas streetability great.

Here is a good old thread stating my experiences with SCM6031E, SCM6152E, SCM6152SP, and my T4 0.81 A/R SC6181SP.

My 9.0:1 2.3L setup had no problems doing 4500rpms.

Thats a good thread thanks. I'm going to do the math and see what the cost is to convert to T4 or to go with a S256/S258.
EDIT: After careful thought I think I want to go in a diffrent direction. A T4 setup is not for me right now.

Tim thanks for the great posts, theres no denying your work and achievements you showed however I was under the impression you was running a 2.0L not the 2.3 w/higher compression ratio. On my current car, I run 30psi on an SC61 .63 T3 hotside and get 30psi around 4900-5100, thats on a 2.0L 7:8:1 CR.

Thanks for the kind words; I posted the old thread to this one, because Savage Talon is running a 2.4L setup, and the turbo advice would be very close to what he will see on is setup.

The SCM6031E was the last turbo I had on my 2.0L before changing over to my 2.3L.
