Whats wrong with the 60 trim

Nothing is wrong with it, the damn thing just takes to long to spool for me. I dont see 25psi until like 5600rpm. Also I dont like the tubular manifold it makes to much heat and makes my car overheat.

Do you know what the difference between the hy and the hx is. I need to know in a hurry so I can bid again on that turbo if it will work.

The HY-35 usually has a 9 CM housing and is stock on 2G dodge auto trans trucks (1994- up) and the HX-35 is on the manual trucks and can have a 12cm, 14cm, 16cm or 18cm housings depending on the truck use.

Well I dont have cam gears so thats not really an option. I am looking to sell the 60trim then buy a holset. I can never make up my mind.

Keep in mind that 1 exhaust cam gear is far cheaper than switching turbos. I'm just making a suggestion. It's ultimately up to you. But a little more overlap goes a long way. and COULD give you the spool time you desire.

Also, your tune MAY need a little tweeking. I'm not questioning your tuning skills at all. But some of the basics many don't know. Like a leaner burn yields a quicker spool. You can lean out on spoolup to speed things up due to the heat increase in the exhaust. Retarding timing assists in speeding up the spool. Again only retard the timing (in small amounts) on spool up. After that you'll want a taller timing curve for max power. You're running a keydiver chip. So, you'll need to talk to them about a reburn or get a used SAFC to retune for this... I really suggest tweeking what you have first.

BTW, which turbine wheel and turbine housing do you have?

Yeah i am having a tough time trying to sell this so I am going to maybe put a bolt on housing on to help with spool also. I contacted jeff and he said he can make the chip leaner in the spool up stages. Can I retard one tooth on the stock gears or do I have to have an aftermarket cam gear. I was told it was a p trim wheel and the housing is a t4 .68. I have my stock 2g manifold laying around,so I was thinking of getting a BP housing and running it like this.

The BEP housing should get your spool time down. MUCH smaller than a t4 .68 a/r housing. The BEP housing is .55 a/r and about the same volume and shape (internally) as an MHI 8 cm^2 housing (.57 a/r).

Retarding a whole tooth is a bit much, around 7.5 cam degrees which equals 15 crank degrees. A bit much. But I've run stock cams like this. It gave a lopey idle and really helped my spool. I scribed new timing marks and drilled a new hole for the cam dowl. I drilled and marked for 1 half tooth difference, or 7.5 crank degrees. This made the best improvement over stock cam timing. It's easier and likely more reliable just to get a cam gear. But, retarding one whole tooth is quick and dirty, and will likely net good results w/ you too. I noticed a difference in spoolup running a SMALL 16G. If it made a difference w/ that small of a turbo, I don't see why it wouldn't greatly help a larger, laggy turbo.

What head/manifold are you running now? 1G? SMIMs shortened spool time vs. a stock 1G when tested against each other a while back w/ the FP3065. 2004 Intake Manifold Test Results.

Also, a tubular equal length runner exhaust manifold will assist in getting a turbo to spool quicker.

Yeah I am going to switch to the BEP housing for sure. I will see how that works out and maybe try the cam gear in the near future.I am running a stock 2g head and intake. I have plans for some fp2s real soon once I get my turbo dilemma sorted out. Do you think with the BEP housing I should see 25psi before 5k.

It's not a q trim turbine wheel. I'll say that it is possible. It depends on the tune. I've never run a p trim turbine nor do I know anyone who has told me flat out what the spool time is running one in a BEP housing with that particular compressor wheel.

My spool slowed a bit when switching to fp2X cams. BUT! it didn't matter to me because I was getting to full boost quicker when it did start to spool. I still got to 25 psi by 4300 rpms in third. W/ stock cams it was in the 3900 rpm range. I raised my rev limit and found a broad powerband.

HX35s have seen spool arond 3500 rpms and HX40s around 4000rpms. It will not take til 5K rpms to make 25 psi with the BEP housing on either Holset.
