Hey guys, I want an ebc with dual setting. the only one that I know in the $200-300 range (which is the price range im looking for) is the greddy profec B spec II. But I have heard many bad things about it, such has not being responsive, allowing boost creep, etc. What are my other options in that price range?? Thanks.

thats odd, a lot of people have trouble with the profec b spec II. anyone else wanna chime in? but also to answer my intial questions, what are my other options.

Think your basically pretty limited for an EBC in the 200-300 range. Both the Greddy Profec's are in that range & so is the new AEM Tru Boost. I did run the Greddy Profec Type S & it was a huge POS. Sure it worked great when it worked, but that was only for just over a month out of the 1.5 years I owned it. Had to send it back to Greddy twice in that time for repairs & both times took over 4 months.

HKS EVC IV (200-280 used) or Newer Versions. Has dual setting mode for low and high boost. Plus, they're 50 State CARB Legal.

I am running the Greddy Profec B spec II, before that I ran the Greddy PRofec Type S, and before that the original Greddy Profec B

All have worked great, I upgraded the original, just because I was bored and wanted something new, I upgraded the Type S, because I had the first batch which had a software problem not running more than 25lbs. I did run this EBC for over a year, to counter daren_p's negative review on it, it worked great (despite the already mentioned software issue with the first batches)--although he has stated before he does have a hatred toward Greddy all together.

Now I am running the Spec II. It works great, I have never had a problem with spike or creep. I'm running a SCM50trim INTERNAL gate.

The greddy line of EBCs are probably the most affordable. I dont understand how people would have a problem with the spec II, it might be with other components on the car.

There is a bit of a learning curve on how to set the boost, but once you get the hang of it, its no problem. The Type S is just like the original, set it ordeal, very simple yet effective. If you go this route, and buy a used one, test it out to make sure it goes past 25lbs. Buying new it shouldn't be a problem, the software issue was with the very first batch when they just released, although who knows if there are unsold ones from that batch still lurking around.

The original profec is still effective and was one of the best if not the best EBC during that era for the price, you can probably pick one up used fairly cheap.

With the price range your looking at $200-300, you are limited to what you mentioned (Profec Type S and Profec B Spec II), brand new of course, used you can probably find the other JDM brands mentioned in the thread.

I wouldn't be afraid of the PRofec B Spec II, the problems I've read about are people not knowing or bother reading how to set the boost, and if thats not their problem its something not related to the controller. It's a universal turbo application, check on other turbo car forums and you will see many use it with no problem as well.

I have had a profec b it worked great for me it was easy to install and held boost sold at 25 with very little spiking on an internal gate. and the steering wheel mount scrable boost was nice. after that i have used HKS 4 that came on a car i got. the learning curve was a little higher but the extra featurs where nice. the greddy had a much bigger solinoid but both were pretty consistant. on my old rx7 i had a power fc with the apex boost control kit wich uses the same solinoid as the apex avcr. and didnt have good response with it so im not a huge fan of the apex avcr as i also found it to be very difficult to set up but controling it with the fc helped. unfortunatly i dont have much experiance with anything newer.

You could build an in-car adjustable dual stage MBC setup for around that price.

+1 for the profec b spec 2.

i think a lot of the problem that people have is learning to use it.
there are several variables that you need to set.
but once you get the hang of it, it feels like a different car!
