hey a friend of mine is planning on getting a gt28 ball bearing to put on his eclipse with stock manifold. anyone using this turbo have some feedback? this turbo is comparable to what other turbo? for how much hp? is it better than a 16g,20g, thanks!:thumb:

he wants fast spooling, daily use, moderate hp like 350+/-

I have a custom GT2871R with a PTE mitsu flange turbine housing, it definitely flows more than a 16g..It's in between an evo 16g and a 50 trim, but spools like a 16g. It's great for higher boost. Yes, it's expensive, but I got the whole setup for a great price so it ended up being the perfect turbo for me. Quick spooling for road racing but still makes great power. I had it on the stock unported manifold but it definitely could have benefited from a larger manifold. I was running 24-26 psi back on the 2.0 and it would hold boost as high as I wanted to rev. I hit over 42 lb/min on that turbo at 24ish psi, and would hit full boost around 3500. I never had it dyno'ed, but it was making around 400 to the crank on 91 octane with meth injection.

A GT28 is NOT related to a T28 at all, and it's not just a ball bearing version of the T28, it's a completely different animal. Below is the GT2871 in between my T25 and a Turbontics RS60T (60-1), and below that is it compared to the T25 again.

I ran a 12.5 @ 111 on 91 octane + meth on that turbo back when I was still learning to tune in DSMlink. That coupled with the fact that I couldn't get ANY traction off the line in 1st, and the track is high enough altitude they give you a formula to calculate your true ET, that run could have easily been a 12.2 or faster. Not bad for a car set up for road racing, not drag, and that drives me to school and delivers Italian food for a restaurant.

There are many variants of each and some parts do overlap. technically, the 2871 is a 30r wheel stuffed into the T2x comp. housing. If the OP told us specifically which GT28 he's referring to we'd be able to give him a much better idea of what it's capable of.

Regardless, I still think it's a waste of money to pay for BB technology on a turbo so small. An EVO 16g will spool faster and make the at least the same power as the setup you described. If you wanted more, my S256 sees 25psi by like 3600, has gone 11.9 @ 119 on pump, and is about the same price as a typical GT28 bolt-on.

Thats not true Beau (eclipsegsx1736) and I have mess around on the street and his GT28 spools just as fast if not a little faster than my E16G:dsm:

What RPM do you see full boost on your EVO 3? If it's over like 3300rpms, something's wrong. The bottom line is the only GT28 series turbo worth considering on a DSM is the 2871R, and at that point you might as well just do the 3071R, have similar spool and more power potential.
