I'm looking for advice on what you would get if you were me and had these goals. Owners of both are welcome for input. I'm looking for a 11-12 sec pump gas daily driver. I've had the Big 16g and had some good times with it, It finally blew on me and I'm really considering the TO4b 50 trim from Bullseye, but my buddy is always nagging on me to get the EvoIII. What do you think the best bet would be. Also other opions would be great. 500-700 range.

My mods list is as follows
Stock bottom end
Stock head
255, afpr
650cc Injectors
The tune is done by DSM chips I have a pre set A/f ratio, currently 11.5/1 a/f and 16* timing
2.5 exhaust
Punishment O2 housing
2g Mas (compesated on chip)
Extreme Intercoolers Race front mount
ACT 2600
Findanza Flywheel

Thanks!

If you're looking for a turbo thats easy on pump, id go with the 50 trim instead of the evo 3 simply because the compressor housing is bigger which means you can run more boost with a lower intake temp. :)

I would go with the 50 trim. I got the EVO 3 and was very happy with it until I wanted more, and I got the 50 trim. It flows more air, and will get you closer to where you want to get than the EVO will get you. But there are good and bad things about both turbos. The EVO will spool faster but the 50 will flow more air, but the 50 is more money. My opinion, get the 50 trim and save yourself some money in the long run.

If you want quick spool, get a 50trim in the E housing with a small hot side. The B housing is going to hold the compressor wheel from reaching it's full capabilities, and a 50 in the E housing with a small hot side will spool plenty fast.

Who sells one with a E and smaller hot side, I can't find one.

Also one more thing, I am going to be buying a new Exhaust mani, now what mani will fit best with this turbo, bolt on.

You can order a 50trim compressor wheel in an E housing with BB and a .63ar exhaust with either a small or large exhaust wheel from PTE. :thumb:

For the mani, if you want to go with a cast you can get one of the new Slowboy manifolds, or you could also get one of the tubi's from their site.

250$ is an excellent price on the FP mani which is a very nice piece.

What's your budget? You could even consider a Gt30r! If you want to have a setup with better upgrade potential in the future I'd recommend buying a Garret (T3) style manifold, a Garret hot side on your turbo, and an external wastegate off the manifold.

i have the evo 3 16g and ive had a garret 50 trim with an external wastegate, i honestly like the evo 3 16g better, mind you i had the boost at about 22 psi on the 50 trim i wasnt impressed at all, the spool rate although was still fast for a 50 trim was slow compared to the evo 3 16g, not only the initial spool rate, but the recovery time in between shifts , it felt like it fell flat on its face every shift and had to respool, in a 1/4 mile that can drastically affect you et, but if you have the nlts option that Jeff O. has then you should be fine, my launches werent as violant with the 50 trim either the best i could pull was a 1.9 60' where as the evo 3 i get low 1.7 my best 60' is 1.703 on cheap walmart fuzion zri's stock suspension and the evo 3 16g, i admit im a sucker for high end power but the low end torque from the 16g is phenominal, it just instantly pulls when you mash the gas no waiting for power, youll have the other guy your racing going WTF . the evo 3 loses power i think around 6800 but im on stock cams stock and intake manifold.the 50 trim i could go to about 7300 before losing any significant power, but there was 3 or 400 rpms in the lower end i lost , i honestly think you will get a fast et with lower end torque , because even if you do have to shift at 6800 rpms as soon as you shift you have instant power again, where as the 50 trim you can take it to 7500 rpms but when you shift you fall flat on your face then have to recooperate all your momentum.

hope i helped , i just felt like shedding some light on the subject , as the perspective of a evo 3 lover :thumb:

just letting you know ive had a 50 trim and ive had the eov 3 16g , which do i prefer ? depends, pump gas and high boost the 50 trim, race gas and high boost evo 3 16g

all around evo 3 16g.

Were you running a BB 50trim?
A BB 50trim will not fall on it's face between shifts, especially if you can shift well. A BB turbo will also spool faster.

What hot side was on that turbo?
The hot side has a lot to do with spool.

sounds like a bad tune on that 50 trim to fall on it's face. 50trim BB had full boost at 3800 24psi, 880 inj, PMS, 255, fpr, stock bottom end/top besides arp headbolts n mls gasket.

Im just now leaving my EVO16g for a GT30R. I dont have that on the car yet (building a motor to go with it) but i had my EVO16g down to a 12.6@108 on pump and 12.3@113 on race (ran out of time last year to really tune with race gas). Im sure i could of gotten lower and faster with race gas. Plus, the night i ran the 12.3 was my last night at the track with the car setup as it was. It was very cold that night and traction was an issue, spinning threw 2nd, so i had to take my anti-lag off.

Basicly, what im getting at is you can meet your goal with an EVO16G, but you will have to have a really good tune, and know how to drive (not saying you cant drive, just making a point) Im not sure if 11's are possible on a 100% stock motor and pump gas on the EVO16G.

Bunch of dsmers got together yesterday and among 5 cars, there was a GT40r, 60-1 (swap in progress from 5031e), Big T28, Evo 16G, and 14b. It was the first time I actually saw the Evo 3 in person and I was shocked to see it is as small as my BT28 after hearing how popular it is. I am upgrading to the 5031e next week. If I was stock maybe I'd have gone to Evo 3, but from BT28 it's just too small an upgrade. I'd imagine it'd be the same case from a B16G.

Depends on what your goal are and how you drive your car. I just currently blew up my evo III turbo, and I bought an bullseye v trim (almost big as a 50 trim). I liked my evo III so much better for street driving, I was running 20psi full spool by 3200, just so much torque down low. Now my new bullseye turbo I am running 12 psi and I get full spool by like 3900. I think for a street this turbo sucks, but it pulls harder and longer @ 12 psi than my evo pulled like at 17 psi. I just miss the instant spool and power and streetablity of the evo.

I've had my Bullseye T04b 50 trim (Borg Warner core) for a week and love it so far. It spools around 3500. I'm only at 22 psi right now since my uncrushed 1G BOV leaks over that...SSQV on the way to fix that problem.

My BT28 spooled like stock around 2500. What's funny about the different experiences so far is that the T28 would kick you back in the seat when it spooled because it was so quick, but after the power came on it ran out of breath. The 50 trim takes a hair longer in time and isn't as violent, but pulls harder much, much longer all the way to 8000.

In some ways the BT28 was more fun to drive because with my 50 trim it exceeds legal speeds so fast that I can't really enjoy boosting anymore. I mean it's great on the highway and I love having the power on tap, but in a way smaller turbos can be more fun in their own way. But you know what's sad? I'm already thinking of going bigger!! ROFL
