I was just wondering where most people are getting their oil feed from for GT or the DBB turbos? I have read the info on the FP inline filter & the info on Garretts page. I was planning on getting it from the filter since its a clean supply, then running a 15 micon inline filter with a restrictor. Whos kit is everybody running? This is the one from extremepsi I was planning on getting:

http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=19382&cat=336&page=1

I'm still waiting to verify the size of restrictor they use but FP recommends a .8mm when sourced from the filter housing so that would work out to .031, & I believe the min Garrett recommended was .040. I know the place where Im getting the turbo from offers a .035 restrictor. Extremepsi also offers a kit from the head with the same inline filter but it looks like it doesn't come with a restrictor.

What happens when the oil pressure is slightly too high? I believe oil will just leak past the seals but won't do any major/physical damage?

i beleve that is to bore out the oil bypass you will lower the oil psi.
the bypass is in the filter houseing

when oil psi to high it will blow the seals out of the turbo.

As per PTE's instructions, I feed my DBB from the oil filter housing with their supplied oil restrictor placed on top of the turbo. I was a bit skeptical, but since they have a 1yr warrenty on it I figured I'd try it out. Its been on there for a year (this month actually) and I'm not blowing out any oil.

I'm running it from the head, since I'm running an inline filter, I'm more concern with excessive oil pressure/volume than the freshness of oil.

I guess I should also mention that I'm using a -3AN line with the oil restrictor instead of a -4 line with the adaptors to fit to the restrictor.

Ditto on that. My turbo has been on for almost 8 months now trouble free and boosting hard.:thumb:

I did the same, but I added the FP inline filter for a little extra security.

Im feeding my GT40 off the 90' oil filter housing as it has cleaner oil then off the head.

Off head=Lower oil psi
Off filter housing=higher oil psi

ok guys. I know this thread is kinda old. But I'm having trouble with my gt40r leaking oil & the car smokes pretty bad at times. I'm gettin my oil supply from the filter housing with the FP restrictor & its still leaking & smoking. Should I get it from the head with or w/o the FP restrictor. Dont want to starve it.

I run my FP3052 with the filter/restrictor off the head, haven't had any problems so far.

"One exception to this is the Ballistic Concepts Ball Bearing CHRA from Garrett. These turbochargers are totally different internally. Their operation is actually impeded by too much oil. It is fine to supply these turbos with oil from the head. In fact the oil line we offer comes from the head and features a .8mm orifice to restrict the oil flow to the turbo . These turbos require water cooling in the absence of the typical high volume of oil that would normally provide stable temperatures."

That is straight off the FP website, under the 'Info Center FAQ'. ;)

Wow, an oldie, but a goodie :D . I too run my 3052 with the source being the head & am running the FP black inline filter (smaller orfice for BB turbos). This is what FP recommended, so thats what I did. The GT center sections don't like anymore then 40-45psi oil pressure at maximum engine operating speed. When talking to Robert (from FP) about oil source setup he mentioned that they have actually tested as low as 10psi under full load with the GT centersections & haven't had any issues.

Cool guys. Thanks for the responses. I called FP today about 3pm & ordered a shorter line & the banjo bolt & fitting for the head. I already have the black filter. Thanks.
