A friend is willing to give me his old GT2540R. I'd like to know if there are any Mitsu-style turbine housings that will bolt to this chra. Would the housing from one of those "big t28" style turbos bolt up? I'm only concerned with whether it will bolt up and that it's at least got a big enough cross section going through it that it's not going to choke the turbo off completely; if it needs machining to fit the turbine wheel that's fine.

I'm envisioning buying a used turbine housing off a big-t28 for 75, having it machined for 50, buying an adjustable hi-range internal wastegate actuator for another 75 and having a bolt-on 400whp ballbearing turbo for 200 dollars plus the usual lines and piping I'd need to do with any turbo upgrade. If this is wildly unrealistic, feel free to burst my bubble.

It's the 2540, not 2560. It's an older turbo that's been superseded by the 2871, which strangely enough is what he's running now. Flow map http://www.atpturbo.com/root/maps/gt2540r.htm .

It's a 400whp pump gas turbo. I know this because his old setup, along with several other 240 guys' setups locally, made over 400 to the wheels at 19 psi on pump on this turbo. I simply want to know if I can make it work so I can consider my options. Another friend has an Evo III he is willing to sell me so that is the other option, but for now I'd rather not debate which one is a better choice, but rather if the gt2540 really is a choice in the first place.

Its not a great turbo... the turbine is very poorly matched to the compressor side. Even if you do get it for free, I have never seen a bolt-on turbine housing for it.

I just noticed that all of the turbos from the GT2554R to the GT3582R are "mid frame" turbos- correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that all of them share the same basic CHRA and theoretically a bolton housing for a GT30R/GT35R will work on this GT2876R (turns out GT2540 is just HK$-speak for GT2876)?
