i have a 97 gsx with a jdm 6bolt ....im gonna geta built head from turbo trix with comp cams ... i have an afc... afpr...255 pump n1 turbo back and many other mods... do you think if i run a 60-1 , do you think i should have an external wastegate or can i get away with internal ?

What are you trying to do run crazy amounts of boost all day every day like 25psi or are you trying to run at more conservative boost levels like 15-20psi because the internal seems to do the job for most but is known for blowing open up top which will let boost out. I run a 38mm internal on my gt14 and with a turbo bigger than a 50 trim and thinkin about internal I wouldn't do anything else either and make sure you have a strong enough spring. Your spring should be half of what your max psi will be so a 15psi spring will be good if you never plan on going over 28-30psi. Otherwise just get a 38mm internal and be sure you won't have boost controll problems.

I highly recomend avoiding internals on larger turbos. In order to flow enough exhaust to run reasonable boost levels on the street, the flapper has to be big enough, and then it is more easily blown open (force=pressure*area). I tried for years to get internals to work. Different actuators, different preloads, helper springs, etc, with no real succuss. Went to an external gate venting all four runners and instantly had rock solid boost at any level. I'd personally rather spend the cash for an external, and move on to more important problems. :)

I couldn't agree more with Kevin's post. With that big of a turbo and its necessarily large internal gate, you would definitely be struggling to maintain elevated boost levels. If you're concerned about the noise level of an external setup, you can always plumb an external gate back to the downpipe for a best-of-both-worlds solution. There are quite a few members on here who have done this and would be able to offer their advice on the subject, I'm sure.

I never ran an internal on my 60-1 but my TiAL 40 holds whatever is thrown at it. I have mine dumped right now but it is getting a little obnoxious so it will be re-routed soon.

ya i have a 60-1 and i have a tial 38 and it holds fine wehn i run the whole exhaust. but i have 3.5 electric cutout and when i open it it seems to boost creep slowly becasue its flowing so much faster then using the whole exhaust. when i open the valve its like right before the seat in my car .
