These pictures are the turbine housing and CHRA from my Precision Turbo GT3251E. You may think I've just answered my own question, but I haven't.

The CHRA is blown. Instead of sending it out to be rebuilt, I figured it's better for me to just order a replacement, since I won't have to pay twice over for shipping (to and back from PTE) and a new replacement has a one year warranty versus 90 days or six months or something like that for a rebuilt. Unfortunately, Precision doesn't make GT3251's anymore, so I can't get a replacement (and if they don't make this turbo, they probably don't make parts for it either).

I was looking at what replacement CHRA's I can get instead and replace that and get the appropriate compressor housing. Initially, I thought it was a Garrett center housing, and started looking at their GT3071's, but none of the center sections in their catalog look like what I have. So, what style of center section is this possibly based off of? Any clues you guys can give would help a lot, thanks.

Have you tried calling Forced Performance? They are the most knowledgable turbo shop and will give you a straight answer on your best option.

This being a non-BB turbo, unless your blades are messed up, a rebuild shoud not be nearly as costly as a new CHRA :dsm:

I did consider a rebuild, and I discussed this with Nate from Diamond Star Motorsports. He was the one who suggested getting a replacement versus a rebuild since he's seen both run for the same cost and a new chra would carry a one year warranty. It would probably run me more since the compressor blades did suffer some damage from coming in contact with the compressor housing.

It looks like the GT32 and GT35 (not GT35R, just GT35) have the same compressor wheel. You could try getting a GT35 CHRA, and then a smaller a/r turbine housing to compensate for the larger turbine wheel. Then, you'd also be upgrading to BB.

Unfortunately the GT-35 CHRA would likely need a port shrouded comp cover as most folks that have used them without such have seen mad surge.

Did this turbo have the redesigned 360* bearing system? I've heard stories of PTE being pretty good about rebuilding the old 270* versions under warranty if want to try them directly.

Well if his comp cover didn't have an anti-surge system, I don't think he'd need one. They're the same compressor wheels. Listed on the PTE site, his original turbo had a standard bearing. I'm pretty positive this means the redesigned, screwed down 270*. Upgrading to BB, then basically downgrading to a larger turbine wheel, I think you'd be feeling boost about the same.

PTE originally used the 270* then went with the race 360* because of alot of failures. The bit about the GT-35 BB is supported by DSMotorsports from their experiences (also where I believe Quasi got his GT-32 non-BB) :dsm:

I was thinking of FP, sorry. They use the 360* in the FP3575, and they screw it down. This evidently helps resist failure, even though it's still seen sometimes in applications above 35psi.

PTE has been nothing but a nightmare to deal with. We called to see if they had replacement center housings in stock. They told us they did so I ordered one. This was over three weeks ago. After two weeks of waiting, I called Nate to find out what's going on. He contacted them and told him they had to cancel my order because they don't make 3251's anymore. They didn't even bother to call Nate back and tell them this. Since then it's been nothing but lots of unreturned phone calls from PTE, which is why I'm trying to find out what center housing it is. If it's a standard bearing GT32 (and if the turbine wheel can match up with my housing), then I'll order an off the shelf GT32 from Garrett and not even bother with PTE.

I'd suggest you do what you're thinking... just deal straight with one of Garrett's dealers and get their product. Sorry about your bad time with PTE... It sucks companies do this kind of thing.

Turbonetics shipped mine the same day i orderd a new CHRA, they where a little pissy because i cut out the middle man and bought it right from them. I paid a little more but Fedex truck was here three days later. Sorry to hear about your fustration with Precision, I'll never use anyone but Turbonetics because of thier service.

I don't think you can buy complete GT32 or GT35 CHRA's anywhere anymore. In fact, I just rebuilt a GT3255 a month ago and the rebuild kit cost me $125! Awful expensive when you consider the amount of parts that you get, as well as the fact that T3 rebuild kits can be found for less than $50.

I currently have this same turbo, a GT3251E that is next on my list to get rebuilt. If you decide you'd rather unload this turbo rather than fix it, let me know :thumb:
