Okay its about that time, where I am going to upgrade my turbo. I am pretty set on a 16g. I have chosen to go with Forced Performance.

They offer three options with the 16g: Port, polish, and clipping. I am def gettting it ported, but not polished. I have searched these boards, and read about clipping. But I can't find any threads about clipping the EVO3 16g. I also noticied FP are the only vendors who are offering the clipping service on the 16g.

Should I get the 16g clipped when ordering from FP?? Why or why not?? I just need opinions.

Your correct not many compaines offer clipping on the evoIII but they do on the reg big & small 16g, personally I have know idea why but would defently like to know the answer. Forced Performance are very helpful, I'd give them a call and see what they have to say. Personally if they do offer it, I'd get it done. The evoIII is already super quick spooling so to give up a few rpms in spool to gain more top end is defently worth it in my books. I'd just check to make sure there aren't any downsides that are specific to clipping the evoIII, since most others don't offer it.

I have to agree with Ty on this one. Porting would definitely do some good, but I don't think you'd need a clip on a wheel that small. Daren also raises a good point. FP are the consummate turbo professionals. Call them and see what they recommend for your application. Also, their port jobs are a work of art and well worth the money.

Let us know what they say.

Well I tried calling them on my lunch break, but I got their answering machine. So, I emailed them during my lunch break. I will try call them later again tonight to see what they say.

Don't worry, they get busy and sometimes it takes a little while to get a return phone call, but they will certainly be in touch.

I would not waste your money clipping a 16g.

Id like to know also, im going to send my EVO3 out to get ported and was wondering if clipping would be worth it or not.

After about 5 times trying to call I never got thru, I sent the email last week. Well, I got my email respoonse back. Here's the copy of my email sent and the email FP sent:

Heres the e-mail I sent.

"I wanted to know is there any downsides to clipping the EVO3 16G?? I noticed you guys are the only vendors who offer the clipping service for the EVO3 16G, and other vendors don't offer it. "

Here's FP e-mail response.

"We offer it since we hands on build our own turbos in house and rebalancing after the clip job is easy for us. Most other shops cannot do this, so they don't :)

The clip job will help with getting the most out of the 16g turbo when the boost is set above 20psi."

So, all in all I figure it is worth it if you are looking to maxing out the EVO3 16g. I was almost set on buying the EVO3 16g; but after a long talk with a friend of mine(he had about 5 talons/eclipse before I got my 1st one, he told me about this website don't know his login id though) I think I am going to go the 50 trim route for now. I think PTE 5031.

Why the sudden change in turbo? The EVO3 makes alot of power, Ive yet to see a 50trim go high 10s.

Im not saying EVO3s are capable but it shows you the 50trim band wagon is starting to move onto GT35Rs and larger turbos now. So like all DSM people the trend is bigger, there was a time when a 20G was considerd a full drag turbo and people wouldnt think of putting it on a street car.

Next year im going to be on a GT37R from ams or just a GT35R ,but Ilike to max out my setup befor I move on.

I plan on eventually getting a FP3065, but it doesnt seem smart(well to me ay least) to jump from a t25 to a FP3065. So I was either going to get a EVO3 16g or 50 trim; max out either of those two turbos out, then move on to a FP3065.

I say not smart, because I will be getting other supporting mods like a FMIC, CAMS, and Magnus IM(to name a few), and if I have a the t25 it wouldn't really help me, because those mods start helping out in the higher rpms.

Consider something (as I should have when I said clipping wasn't necessary). With a proper clip, there is less backpressure in the manifold and the turbine will actually be able to move more air without excessive turbulence. I read an interesting thread on the Buschur forums about this when tested on a slew of 20G's and it made perfect sense. If you think about it, Buschur uses TD05's with a serious clip and they've run 10's before in a full bodied car with off the shelf parts.

I'd say that FP was right on and I was dead wrong. It especially makes sense if you're going to push it with high boost levels.
