The Evo III is the obvious choice but to be honest it will be easier to get 325 wheel (pump) on a bigger turbo. In the end the choice is really up to you, however, for me the deciding factor was the quicker spool time.

Yeah I would go with a mitsu evo16g hands down or a evogt turbo from turbochargers.com and only their knockoff, theirs is proven to be a good turbo and actually last, already comes ported and with a larger flapper for like 500$, which is hard to beat. But if you have youre doubts than hands down, evo3 FTW!

Not to get off the original subject but ITSME4G63 recommended the EVO III GT, but I havent heard anything really good about it, have things changed? THat was my first choice a while ago, not sure?

Just get a real MHI EVO III from turbochargers.com and you'll be able to meet your goals. The V-trim flows a lot more air than the EVO III and is more suited to a motor like mine than a stock compression 6 bolt (although it would do well there too).

Good luck,

Andy

I went with a MHI Evo III 16g (as well as manifold and o2 houseing) and personaly I saw very little increase in lag over my modifed 14b. At least in the lower gears it's bearly noticeable at all. The only gear I really could notice there was a increase in lag was 5th... which woohoo so what it's overdrive.

Yeah but what kinda of lag am I looking at with the BUllseye. I read great things about the EVO III turbo and spool up.

What are th differences between the m trim and v trim?

M-trim isn't nearly as good as the V-trim in terms of power output. As mentioned before, V-trim spoolup on a 2.0 is somewhere around the neighborhood of 3800-4000 for full boost (similar to a 6H 20G or FP Green).

The Evo III 16g (MHi) should be able to make 380ish hp if you really max it out and use tricks like water injection. And with stock like responce... well thats the route im going.

I know someone who has had both the evoIII and the vtrim. He said the vtrim did pull harder up top but like was said here you lose about 800 rpms in spool. The spool on the vtrim doesn't seem to be that great as there are much larger turbo's that spool in the same range as it. There have also been a couple owners that have had problems with surge on the vtrim that they couldn't get rid of & had to switch turbos. EVOIII is a great street/quick spooling turbo, add in some cams and you should meet your goals no problem and have a nice power band. If you want some room to grow in the future, I'd just get a 20g if you want Mitsu reliability or a 50 trim variation.

If you check out the SBR internal WG thread, look for the new motor combo about half way down. Then find the pulls for the vtrim & evoIII. At 20 psi the evoIII actually made more power, & with a quick look the evoIII curves look better to me.

I've had both turbos. I like both, but above 20psi, the T04B shines. Sure, it's a 25 year old turbo with a horrible compressor map for the technology today, but the thing pulls really hard at 25psi, unlike the Evo 3 16G.

The 2 g solution is no good to me, already have 2 g manifold, and 02 housing.
If you buy the turbo and port it to the 7cm gasket, you'll need to port match the 2G manifold too. And if you don't want any boost creep issues, you'll have to port the turbo too.

I beg to differ with that. Show me one of these turbos that has made the HP and torque that the 16g has as well as the track times.

how did you get so much hp from an evo16g again, you told me before but I forgot.

By understanding that bigger isnt always better.
Getting the right parts together so that they compliment each other and good tunning.:thumb:

To be honest, all I have is the "seat of the pants" measurements with a half-ass tune track days with my old 93 FWD. The 16G was great, no doubt. It's just my V-trim just outperformed it when it came to the track and the conditions.

EVO 16G - 14.017@113mph @22psi
T04B V-trim - 13.87@117mph @20psi
