Okay,

So I have an ATR Performance tubular O2 housing with wastegate dump right now. However, I have been scheming (((mostly pipe dreaming))) about buying a new turbo at the end of summer. I am thinking something decent sized, like a 50 trim. However, I do realize that it would be in my best interest to put an external wastegate on to help me maintain precise boost levels. despite it being easier to mount on the #1 runner, I think that this would kind of be a bad thing, as it would force exhast to have to go into the colletor then back up a runner (((with exception for exhaust already in the #1 runner of course))). I was pondering how easily I could modify my current tubular O2 housing to run an external off of of it. If anyone has ever modified an O2 to run an external wastegate off of it, pics would be great. If this doesn't sound feasible, please let me know and WHY it doesn't sound like it is going to work. If it does sound like this can work, please give me some suggestions. I was thinking of trying to find a 90* mandrel bent elbo w and welding it in place of the dump, then tacking the wastegate's flange on that.

PS

The ATR dumping housing is a stainless unit. I think that it would be good for me to find the flanges and piping in stainless that I may need to add onto it. If anyone can give me a good source for such things, that would be appreciated.

That's from the SBR website. But the problem with that is that you're still using the internal wastegate passage to route the exhaust through. If you're going to use something like that you need to port the hell out of the entrance to the wastegate passage on the turbine inlet side.

But yes it's done before, and SBR sells housings that work with tial 38 and 44mm gates.

simple.

assuming you have a ext dump housing.

Cut the dump tube off.
weld appropriate size diameter pipe to the o2 flange, to the desired legnth. attach the correct WG flange...

walla;)

The Dump tube isnt going to be comming out at the proper angle, so youll need to whack it off at the 02 flange.

I used a Dremel On my 3" SS o2 dump, Fo remove the dump tube, i then welded a plater over it, for a manifold mount 02 setup.

a machine shop can make a flange, but a Good wastegate should come with one i Think, not sure.

all these have different flanges and stuff, just have to look around

Also, youll be trial and error on your fabrication, may take some patience getting the Gate's dump tube to route correctly.
Many people use a Flexible exhasut tube for its alittle more forgiving.
