so i ordered a 50 trim and manifold from sbr with all the supporting mods (850s, walbro 255, ect) for my 95 gsx. spent the past 4 days installing everything and now that im done im starting to troubleshoot the problems. first off the line from the fuel rail to the fpr was leaking so i talked to some people and they said it was safe to stick the stock fpr on there for the time being. also had an issue with the oil return line being pinched but that was fixed. now onto the bigger problems. before i swapped out the fuel pump i was told to make sure that my tank was less than a quarter full so that my back seat wouldnt fill fuel during the upgrade. so.... my tank was already low from losing fuel from changing the injectors, fpr, fuel lines, ect. battery died from the alarm so i figured whatever...ill just roll it out of the garage and into the driveway to jump start. went to start it and nothing...dry crank no sputtering or anything. then i remembered the fuel so i stuck about 5 gallons in there. still nothing. but after it sputters a little it starts to smoke out the wastegate. so im thinking it could be one of two things...either i fried something intenally on the engine from lack of fuel or i somehow blew the turbo.

back to the troubleshooting...

your car would start with a blown turbo and you prob didnt get the chance to heat it up from the sounds of it :dsm:

First make sure your fuel pump is running. You should be able to hear it cycle for a second when you turn on the key. If nothing check the fuse, then check the wires on the fuel pump.. Make sure they are on tight. The gas tank is the last place you want something to spark.

i unhooked the fuel line from the filter to the rail and i am getting fuel i think its just low becuase its sitting on a hill and the spark plugs are probably fouled

i know this is really noob but i think the spark plug wires were connected wrong the hanes and chilton manuals dont say so is it 4123 or 4213?

ok i set them in that order and still no luck....it turns over like it wants to start but wont. im fuel spark and everything. but now its smoking from around the exhaust manifold gasket

Pull the pump back out and either fix/replace the o-ring or remove it all together and use a short piece of 3/8" fuel line to go from the pump to the pickup. This is a pretty common problem that happens during a pump install. The o-ring will ####(kok)(cant spell it correctly due to editing software) sideways on the pump and not seal to the pickup. You will get fuel to the rail but the pressure wont be good enough to fire the injectors. I always just use the rubber fuel line fix anytime I swap a pump. The 3/8" line fits the top of the pump tight and the od of it fits into the pickup tight. Once the pump is bolted back to the pickup, it will hold the fuel line in place with no need for clamps. If you need a better description, just pm me.

Don't concentrate too much on the smoking ... that's just some of the packagin oils (guards against rust) and oils from your hands and such. It will burn off as the car warms up. Good luck with the rest of the problems ... seems like 92awddsm is on to something.

Good luck.

well i fixed it...no it wasnt the fuel pump....i feel so noob..there was a 4 pin harness that was unplugged to the back and right of the timing belt. probably told the injectors when to feed. so shes running...poorly but still running i attached a capture from dsmlink. couple noticed problems. srs engine check light is on, no boost (most likely a boost leak), backfire from wastegate. thats all i have heard so far.

good to hear you found why it wouldnt start.

Just go back over all your connections, check for leaks.
