Boost Difference

I have a 97 GST with an EVO III 16G and I have a fmic. I was just wondering why 2nd gear boosts a lot quicker than first gear? I barely have to give any throttle to boost in 2nd gear but its different for 1st gear. I was just wondering because my friend has a GTI Golf and his boosts in 1st the same as in 2nd.

Not very much load in first gear so its hard to build boost.
