Is this a small 16g or big 16g??

OK the deal is I bought a "big 16g" and i think it truns out to be a small 16g according the the numbers, I am not sure though.

Heres the part numbers:
49178-01420 - Big 16G
49178-01470 - EVO III 16G
49178-01520 - Small 16G

but mine reads 49178-05200 and so I am guessing its a small 16g, I bought it for 350 shipped which i though was a good deal but now im thinking twice since im almost positive its a small 16g which is dissapointing... But hey atleast it doesnt have any shaft play what so ever.

Why are you dissapointed?

I love it how just because something is labled "Big" or "Small" people think it's better or worse.

If you check out DSMtimes there's more small 16's running fast times then Bigs...
 
It is ported in the turbine housing on the inlet, outlet and the waste gate is ported with a 34mm flapper.

OK I contacted the seller he says it has a the big 16g turbine wheel and also he says the shaft play is oil clearance because it has been sitting it his garage the last year and thats just the oil clearance in the bearings?
 
it has a little of both, but he swears that the exhaust wheel is .10 bigger, is the shaft play thing true about it being oil clearance?
 
Yes, oil clearance will allow some freeplay when you push on the shaft. You should also check to make sure the fins do not touch the housings.
 
Yea they dont touch the housings, its not that close to it either, but if I put the turno on and a good majority of the shaft play doesnt go away with oil pressure then I will take it off again and rebuild it, I just wwould look to find find a place to balence it though, the lining it back up part doesnt sound perfect enough to me, id rather balence it.

I turned the turbo upside down put oil in the oil outlet and let it sit for a few minutes and all the shaft play was gone.

yah, most turbos you get don't come pre-lubricated. once you pour a little bit of oil in it, the sucker will tighten right up.
