so i bought a parts car, but i need some help

i bought a 1990 mit eclipse gst. i have began tearing the motor apart and i have come across a few unsettling facts.

i got a bunch of oil in the intake, no doubt blow-by, possibly blown rings. the intercooler corroded and when i took the upper intercooler hose off, the "exit" for the intercooler broke off. luckly i have a spare intercooler.

also, i took the intake pipe off and i decided to play around with the turbine inside the turbo and check for shaft play. however, i cant even move the damn thing around. the ####in turbine wont even spin, no matter how hard i push. i almost cut my finger pushing. so would i need to rebuild it? or should i just upgrade?

any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the turbo is dead. You could get a used 14b for about $75-150 or so, or just get an Evo III for about $460 I think. Depends if you plan on upgrading in the future or not. If you do, might as well do it now and save the money.

Since its just a parts car just replace it with another 14b. They can be found on ebay and these classifieds fairly cheap.

nickmorth11, as far as upgrading, i was gonna upgrade the turbo when i drop thmotor into my good car.

i was thinking of doing the EVOIII 16G turbo, plus a fmic (havent decided on a specific one yet) and an hks ssq bov.

yea i know it sucks, but i was gonna do a full rebuild, replace all gaskets and seals, and a kevlar timing belt, along with a balance shaft removal. but come on, what can you expect from a $400 parts car? LOL
