I recently installed an EVOIII 16G on my 1G and have come into a financial speedbump with winter term classes coming up. I had originally planned on going full FMIC/MAF/etc setup but that is going to have to wait.

My question is if any of you on here have run this turbo on the stock side mount? If so, what numbers did you put down and how has it worked out for you? It's winter and rather cold everyday here so I think I might be ok regarding heatsoak to an extent.

I appreciate any input. Thanks again.

Joe.

Keep the boost under 15psi and you should be ok. I ran my evo on a bone stock 2g at 13psi just fine and it still pulled way better than stock.

Well I didn't run my evoIII on the stock 2g sidemount but on the HRC sidemount which is alot larger then both the 1g & 2g ic's. I ran 18 psi and it was ok but the fmic I got was a big improvement. If you keep the boost fairly low (18 or below) and being its winter you shouldn't get too much knock, didn't check your profile but make sure you have a logger to see exactly how much boost you can run safely. Running 18 I would see a couple degrees of knock by mid/top of third or forth when I started from a stop. With the fmic I can pull through 5th with zero knock. I also picked up a couple lb/min in airflow without changing anything and the car seems to pull alot harder everywhere.

Thanks for the input. :thumb:

Did either of you guys dyno your cars w/ the sidemount?

It won't be worth the money to tune with a wideband on a dyno until you have a solid setup IMO. Over winter with these temps you should have no real problems with heat soaking, just use your datalogger to make sure everything stays in spec.

I ran the 16G at 18psi on the stock side mount in my 2G. Granted I lived in a much cooler climate than I do now. I pulled 13.29 best and averaged 13.35-13.40 at Union Grove Raceway (Wisconsin). I would not run that turbo out here on the stock side mount at that PSI but you are in cool enough climate that, as long as you watch all the numbers you should be fine. Either way, Run it at the stock PSI or maybe up to about 14psi and you should not have anything to worry about.

Just my experience.

I agree

FWIW I just ran a 13.20 @ 105 in the 1/4 with a EVO3 16G on the stock 1G sidemount. I ran a mid 13 on 15 PSI then I turned up the bost to 20 with race gas and ran the 13.20. If it werent for the crappy 2.0 60 foot time I could have run a 12.9.

No knock with 17 degrees total timing. it was a cold night, 44 degrees, at the races however, but I run 15 PSI daily on the street even on hot days in Houston and get very little knock, unless i do back to back runs without letting the IC cool down.

If this helps, I run my b16g @ 17psi on my stock sidemount without any knock. Any higher and it starts knocking right away, and if i run through more than 3-4 gears through redline in under 5 minutes, ill start to get heatsoaked and knock. This is all with my early Autumn tune @ about 65 degrees F. I should prob turn it down a pound or two but i dont really flog my baby.....often :sneaky: . Mods in sig btw.

p.s. If i had to guess, I would say you should be good to about 15psi, no more. Make sure you log it and make sure everything is tip top before you just take our word for it. Everycar handles boost a little differently.

UPDATE I ran a 12.5 at 110 on the crappy stock 1G sidemount. 17 PSI was the limit for pump gas but I was able to run 24 PSI on the Evo 16G and the sidemount with race gas. Hope this helps you.
