I started installing my hx35 and intercooler today. I need to ask for a few tips.

1. What do you guys use to reinstall the spring clip for the compressor housing? It came off real easy with some channel locks, but I cant get it back on with the channel locks and I cant find any ring clip pliers big enough to buy.

2. More of a question than a tip. I knew I was going to have to dent my water pipe to get the comp housing to clear. But its hitting the boss for the water line coming off the bottom. I don't think I even needed to dent the pipe. I'm trying to rotate the pipe so that boss is further back so I can get clearance. Has anyone else experienced this?

3. What size fans are you guys using? I have a slim line I got from Shucks, I'm 99% sure it was a 14" fan, but cant remember for sure. But it doesn't look like there is going to be enough room between the front motor mount and the fan.

4. See the attached pics of the intercooler I'm using. On a 1g were do you guys route the lower intercooler pipe. With this particular intercooler I cant use the whole where the power steering cooler lines come through, unless I offset the intercooler to the passenger side. There are no existing holes big enough, and I don't see where I could cut one that doesn't effect the structural integrity of the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. don't know.. no experience.

2. is the HX series turbo water cooled? what is a boss? is that the banjo fitting for a water line? if it's a waterline (and the turbo is only oil cooled), just eliminate the water line completely. The way you do that is just go to your local hardware store and get an grade 8.8 hex bolt, perhaps 10-16mm in length and plug off the hole.

3. to my knowledge, a 14" fan is way too large to fit. you may want to play around and see if you can position it higher and more towards the passenger side of the radiator.

4. Here's a picture of my motor mount with my SBR G50 turbo. perhaps you can use this to get an idea of how you're going to route your piping. you WILL need either a 90* elbow welded on, our a 90* coupler.

Get a non-turbo water pipe, it doesn't have the boss for the coolant return, gives you alot more clearance.
That's the ticket! :thumb:

Sorry to bring this thread out..but
I love your FMIC...Which Brand ? Nice :sneaky:
Which size?CFM? where I can get?..some link Please....howmuch cost?
THX

I bought the intercooler used on ebay. I don't remember the exact dimensions, but it has 2.5" inlet and outlet, 3" thick, around 11" tall, and around 23.5" long. I looked all over trying to find out what intercooler this is but couldn't find one the same size anywhere to compare against. It is very close to the ones being sold on ebay but not quite the same size.

PS- I think I have the pipes figured out, just waiting for the weather to improve some to finish the install.

I have the same one,got new endtanks made for it,so it could be used the short route. What did you mount the Ic too?Look almost like a factory bracket

I hung it off the holes at the bottom of the bracket where the driving lights mount. This isn't the permanent mount, just a mock up. I still haven't had a chance to work on it, because of long hours at work and very cold weather. But when I do the permanent mount I'm going to make different mounts, I have a good idea of what I'm going to do but not sure until I actually do it.

1) snap ring pliers
2) use a n/t pipe
3) i used two pusher fans on the front of the radiator.. cleaner install
4) hard to explain but i had the same interocoler and routed my pipe around below the alternator, then next to the oil filter housing and around infront of the wheel.. peek in there you'll see what i mean

also, clock the turbo to move it away from the motormount (as in point upwards more) that will make it so that fan doesnt work, another reason why i put it as a pusher fan

Anyone running one of these have any pics of how they did there piping and got the hx35 too fit
