rust issues...

hi have a 95tsi and the timing jumped, all the valves bent, and i removed the head, the car is in a car port, the head has been off for a month or so now and inside the cylinder walls and the top of the block started to form rust, i was wondering if i was to hone the cyl walls and take very light grip paper to the top of the block if this would be ok with out warping, i am looking to do this with out taking the motor out, and if this will work is there anything i can put over it to prevent rust again, maybe some spray or if not just plastic, any advise would be helpful, thanks

Its just surface rust....

use some wd-40 it sould remove the rust and prevent it.... it is afterall what it was made for
