stock smic...what are its limits?

i just blew my T-25 and am looking for a upgrade rather than a rebuilt T-25 and i only have the cash for a turbo and the odds and ends to run it (MBC, boost gauge, turbo timer)..i need something that can run properly on the stock side mount...what all turbos can properly function without problem with the stock side mount intercooler?

Pretty much a 16G but even that would be pushing it , but if i were in your shoes i would get what turbo iwanted and just not boost like a madman..or you could get a 14B to save some cash and save up for a FMIC and whatever turbo you wanted

yeah...the sidemount is definately not meant for ANYTHING other than the t25 performance wise. When i had a 14b on there at 18psi, that sidemount was completely heatsoaked by the time i got through second or third gear. My evoIII 16g, well, thats why i have a FMIC waiting to go on.

Any turbo can be safely run on the stocker as long as you boost very little or you just don't drive with a serious lead foot. However, if your even considering getting a bigger turbo (which i cant see why you wouldn't) i would definately start saving for a FMIC and the supporting mods for the turbo of course.

That may seem like a little much, so if you want to squeeze some more efficiency out of it you could always try one of those IC sprayers but i dont know how much those help. Another idea would be one of the supra sidemounts.

Just remember this wonderful equation:
A bigger turbo(with supporting mods) + stock sidemount + flooring it above stock boost = Mad Knock = blown up engine + unhappy dsmer

I ran a Small 16G on my 1G w/ stock sidemount and it heatsoked in about under 5 min of "spirited" driving. I have never, EVER had a single heatsoaking issue w/ my new FMIC, I wonder why?????

If running low boost, any aftermarket turbo would work. However, the whole point of getting a larger turbo is to run more boost (=more heat), and in so doing you will find the limits of the stock SMIC pretty quickly on pumpgas (2.5+psi pressure drop, low airflow thru core)
