Just curious if anyone has any commentary?

I know alot of people seem to look for something betwine the Evo 16g and the 20g, so can't you even find the 18g?

Is there some downfall to it?

Nope, there is no downfall to it. When they first came out, they were quite expensive so people didn't use them. You can actually buy one almost as cheap, if not cheaper then an Evo3. It also flows about 50cfm more then the e3. I know I'll be picking one up in the next week. It's honestly a great turbo and pulls quite hard and has more/better top end then the Evo.

Just wondering where you have found that information? The only people who really put the 18g down, are people who have never used one. Get first hand information, not stuff that you have "heard".

I think the expense has been the reason. And now especially so since the EVOIII is so cheap. The 18G may have been a half step up from a B16G, but below a TD05H-20G, but not necessarily worth the cost. But now with the EVOIII, it almost seems as if you have to go all the way up to a TD06H-20G to get any sort of appreciable upgrade in the Mitsubishi family. Sleepers, Bastards, BR20G's are all pretty pricey and promise more performance, but I don't think the 18G has any real advantage over the EvoIII.

Forced Performance used to have an 18G upgrade for $429 that I was interested in for my 1G, but they have since changed it to a B16G. :(

Well I looked around the net at a few sites, and have yet to see anywhere that sell's the 18g.

Does anyone know how it spools compaired to the Evo 16g?

I ran a Big 16g before I swapped to a FP 18g and the difference was little, but it was there. I only boosted my 18g to 10 psi and the 16g to 12 psi. I would get full spool on both at about 3200 rpms with minor boost leaks. My 18g is currently for sale in the classifieds though. The engine rebuild has my checking under seat cussions for change.

I Run The 18g Turbo On My Car... It Is Absolutely Great... No Complaints Since I Bought It 2 Years Ago

FP is currently out of 18G's. I had just inquired about it and here is the response I received today..

"Steve,

You have asked about the 18g turbo which is rated up to 400whp, that
would be a good turbo and inexpensive to get you to your current
goal, but unfortunately I am currently out of 18g compressor wheels
and it may be a few weeks before we get more in.The T3/T04E would be right about similar range, but the biggest
difference with it would be it is a T3/T4 flanged turbo. You would
need to purchase either an adapter flange or a different manifold to
make this turbo work with your set up.

Another suggestion I have would be the Evo 3 16g. This turbo has
incredibly fast spool up, as well as great top end performance. It is
also rated at 42lb per minute which is more than the the 18g and
nearly as much as a 20g turbo. It is also rated to be a 400whp turbo.
The convenience of it being able to mount to the stock DSM manifold
is also a bonus. We are receiving a shipment of these turbos this
week and have listed them on sale as of today, the current price is
$539 for the Evo 3 turbo. This is also a brand new turbo and is not
refurbished. If you are interested in having it ported for better
flow and performance, we do offer porting on this turbo for $95.

If you have any other questions, please let me know by either calling
or emailing me back. If you are interested in placing an order, you
can do so either online, through email or also by giving me a call.

Thank you!
Amber"

Notice they said the Evo 3 16g flows more than the 18G. And considering they are selling the Evo 3 16G for $100 less than the 18g.

^ The reason I cancelled my order with them. I went ahead and ordered it and waited until they called and told me that they were out of stock of the housings. I guess they were suppose to be in Wed (today) but I just got pissed off that I wasn't told that in the beginning. I ordered from the phone and that is something they would know and should tell. Nothing against Fp but that is something you need to tell customers before they order it, or at least advertise on your site that your out of it.

I agree, they need to have "Out of Stock until xx/xx/xxxx" on their website!

I'm currently running the Fp WOTH 18g and I love it. Pulls hard to redline and I get 18psi at 2800rpm's. :thumb:

The evo lll 16g flows more then the 18g? Whats the best time on the evo lll 11.8 ? green92gsx with a 18g ran 11.3. I dont know but it looks like the 18g flows more to me.

The 11.8@117 mph you are speaking of is in a full weight 2g.
From dsmtimes.org
11.825 117.55 1.676 FP EVOIII 16g

The 11.3@123 is a lighter 1g car.

The two cars have completely different setups. You can't say that the turbo is why one is faster than the other.
Joseph Bucci 11.270 120.00 7.240 98.00 1.640 14b No nitrous.
Thats a 14b, does that mean a 14b is a better turbo? No it doesn't.

I've got the 18g w/o exhaust housing from FP. Will have some track times tomorrow night.

I don't know if it helps but Greddy also sells the 18g in a "turbo upgrade kit".

Yeah but, the 18G they sell is they're own modified piece, they use it in a variety of their turbo kits. Don't know if they doctor it up for each specific application. But according to them, it isn't factory fresh from MHI. Whether what they actually do is worth it, well - I don't know anyone who uses it.
