I have a 1997 GST and when I bought it already had a TurboXS bov. It has the purple end on it. I was wondering if there is a way I could adjust it so it blows off easier without it needing alot of boost to go off? here is a picture of it.

does it work fine how it is set up right now? if so why would you want to blow off sooner? and you should really be recirculating that bov.

He want's it to blow off sooner so he can rev in parking lots and try to impress people. Not a chance he'll recirculate.

ya I figured as much, but it was worth a chance. Anyway to the thread started here is the lowdown on what's going to happen. If you have it setup to blow off sooner then it is going to end up blowing open once you get past its boost holding capacity and you will be trying to preasurize an open system, not to mention the air will be leaving the intake track and still be accounted for by the mass making you run really really really rich which will kill performance.

how do i make it recirculate? and what does recirculation do? i dont care about how it sounds i want performance, thats the whole idea of a bov.

recirculating means taking the excess pressure you BOV blows off and routing it back into the intake. If you're running a stock air metering setup your car thinks that excess air will be re-routed into the intake. It then gives the car fuel for that amount or air, but since the air isn't there your car can give out too much fuel thus causing you to run rich. If you run an aftermarket setup, you can vent because your ECU no longer expects that excess air to enter the turbo.

Pros of venting: sound..
Cons of venting: running rich, crappy idle, turbo doesn't spool "as fast".

However, I'm not sure you can run a recirculated setup with the TorboXS BOV, someone else will have to answer that for you. :)

You are gonig to need a new bov to be able to recirculate, the current bov you have will not let you recirculate. TSI USER pretty much summed it all up as what recirculating is.

i think he wants it to open easier so he doesnt have to push 37948758u psi of boost to make it open. Im unfarmiliar with that particular bov so idk if theres an adjustment screw but to recirc, you need to buy a new bov

You set the spring tension of the TurboXS valves with special shims. The unit must be disassembled and the shims added/subtracted to get the desired spring rate.

Now with that said, yank that piece of crap off and sell it on Ebay. then buy either a 1G valve and perform the high boost mod, or buy a Forge valve for a bit more.

My car doesnt idle bad. and from what I have heard this is supposed to be one of the best bovs. what bov should i buy?

I can't believe this thread is still open. Fact is that bov is garbage since it can't be recirculated unless you have the gm maft setup, but then why not just run the tial? You need an hks bov or the greddy I suppose, since they're still loud which seems to be what you want, but can also be recirculated. The cheapest and most reliable bov would be a 1g, but then you can't pull into a parking lot and blow it off to make people think you drive a race car. :notgood:
