My mods are current in my vehicle profile, getting ready to buy an o2 housing and a intercooler. I intend on running no more than 20 psi on this setup. With that said do i need a front mount intercooler to combat knock or would a side mount intercooler be sufficient? Either way the stocker has to go so give me some suggestions.

*no interested in supra sidemount as i dont feel comfortable with that setup, any other sidemount suggested as a bolt on i would consider
*dont want to go overkill, my goal was to run a 13 to 13.5
*also let me add that i am a college student on a budget that doesnt need to spend any more than necessary for an appropriate intercooler setup.
So... what do you guys think?

The upgraded smic like the dejontool seem to end up to be like $800 with all the pipes which is right where all the big fmic are. Just get a medium sized fmic with not much bumper cutting and you will be fine. But if you want the sleeper look and just bolt-on thing, get the dejontool it should be ok with your setup.

Not that I wouldn't like to sell you on one of our 2G FMIC kits but, what seems to be the problem with the FMIC that is on your car in your pics gallery. Sold it, didn't like it? Any ways if you are still in the market for a FMIC kit we sell one. Heres a link to the page it about halfway down: http://www.buschurracing.com/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?2X376545X50 Check it out and let me know what you think. If you have any questions about it just give me an email [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I already have greddy hard piping both lower and upper, so it would only be the actual price of the sidemount. I am wondering if it will protect my motor well enough.. there is a guy on dsmtrader selling one of these dejon tool sidemounts for 350 shipped.. which should be a direct bolt on to my cars current hardpipe setup.

whats wrong with a supra sidemount?

fmic and never look back.
nothing is wrong with the sidemount, its a great upgrade, i just dont want to hack my car or have piping rigged up funny... if im going to hack something up, its not going to be for a sidemount that should be direct bolt on replacement.

I have a 98 talon and I was going to go with dejon but I ended up buying Johnny Racer Core (25x8x2.75) with 2.25 outlets and made my own piping. My total was less than the price of dejon sidemount and I like it. 18 psi on my small 16g and I can run all day with out heatsoaking it. Just my .02 cents. :thumb:

If you're like 99% of the people on this site. Someday you'll want to go bigger. I say go with the FMIC, Depending on how much you want to pay several different ones have pretty good names for themselves. Spearco cores are definately popular and the buscher FMIC is definately a good one but it is a little pricy. just my .02

"JRPR1" on ebay.. or johnny race car FMIC's will do trick.

like mentioned above, putting together one of these "budget" kits will cost just the same as those oversized SMIC's. If you want the sleeper look, just paint it black.

On top of spending the same amount of money, the FMIC will serve you better when you'll want to go bigger. Just look at my new sig.. about a year ago I kept telling myself "an evo 3 16G will be fine for me, I'll never want to go bigger, I have FWD" psssh, yea OK WTF :rocks:

The stock sidemount's good for 12's so if your goal is mid 13's you won't need any more than that. Barring that, grab a DejonTool. It's minimal fuss to install and it will support a 16G without issue so it'll be fine for your T28.

On an unrelated topic, what fuel control are you running for the 550's. I didn't see anything listed and that seems highly unusual.

I went 12.5 @ 110 on a 14b and stock SMIC. The charge temps were 240F by the end of the pass, and it was knocking by 3rd gear. I've got a Dejon big SMIC on now, and on the street it'll stay under 160F after a full pull. I'll be hitting the track on Thursday to see what kind of gains I get. For your goals, there are better places to put your money right now than an IC though.

Ahh, my bad. I used to have a 1g and looked at those ones a lot and you needed bigger pipes so the stock sizes don't work right. But it should be ok with your needs if you just want to run the t28 and not go too crazy with it all the time. And it will be a piece of cake install. But if you plan on going bigger get a fmic hands down. Good luck.

With some couplers, your IC piping should fit the dejontool SMIC just fine. If you are running 16-20psi on the T28, the sidemount will cool fine. I am running the dejontool supersidemount with 2.5" IC piping. On the dyno it cooled multiple runs at 18psi without heatsoaking. Once I upped the boost on my 54 trim to 21psi it heatsoaked after 3 pulls. So running a smaller turbo than I did at lower boost it will cool fine. If you are on a budget, getting that SMIC for $350 and some hose techniques rubber couplers could be a nice modification for your ride. It cools up to 400bhp (says the website) and it about 250% bigger face then a stock core. I think you'd be fine using one with your goals and turbo.
