Back from dyno and disappointed

I went to an awd dyno near me and got my car tuned. I have a td05h ported 20g, 680 injectors, 255 pump, afpr, dxd clutch, greddy fmic, and afc and i walked out with 262awhp at 19psi. Why are my numbers so damn low??? I had little time before i had my appointment to check for boost leaks but i checked up to the bov and i fixed all the small ones up to the bov. Also when i drive the car just giving it a small amount of throttle going up to speed the boost goes up and the car gets loud but it doesnt go anywhere. Boost leak?? But if i floor it my car takes off pretty nicely. But how does my gauge read boost in my intake manifold but my motor not see it??? Any help please? Thanks

my car is doin the same thing man but i only have a 14-b on it. i ended up dissconnecting the wastegate so i dont harm the turbo till i have the time to check for leaks. im pretty much guessing you plumed the boost gauge vac from the intake. your reading the boost thats comeing into the intake but the turbo (if theres a leak) is boosting more but not all of it is getting to the intake. i would be careful boosting it wot cause you might over spool the turbo. the reason it takes off at wot sometimes is cause your actually getting passed the leak by pushing more air into the intake. good luck man.... try not to boost till you find the leak

I put down like 5 more hp than that with my old 16g setup at 20psi but was trapping 110-111...

Sounds like boost leaks and a lack of tuning but only a log and wide band read out will tell us/you for sure. Those aren't horrible numbers but a lot lower than you should be.

Well the shop tuned it for me so its not the lack of tuning.

Because your A/F goes all out of whack. A rich A/F causes a loss of power because it won't produce as much heat and won't burn as quickly. Did they run a wideband on it when you dyno'd?

The mass air sensor reads the air count before the turbo. If it reads it as 2000Hz but you leak out 400Hz worth of air, you run rich because they engine injects 2000Hz worth of fuel into an engine only getting 1600Hz worth of air. The more air you leak, the worse it gets.

You may have 20PSI in the intake manifold, but if you have boost leaks, how much PSI is the turbo having to make to keep 20 PSI in the manifold? I have a similar problem; I have leaks in my throttle body seals and need to get it rebuilt. Even with a nice FMIC, I still get some knock at 19-20PSI because I don't know how hard my turbo is having to work to overcome the leaks.

I think my last log at 17 psi was 210 hp cal from dsmlink.

I have PTE 680 injectors too. I think my global is -30, 180 deadtime, and taking out 7% across the board from 4k-7k.

Sometimes i have idel problems and not sure why...might because the pcv but it's not leaking THAT bad at all. Goes up to 100o to sometimes 1500-2000...I need to do a leak down test...

I would think a 20g would make alot more than that, but you should have boosted like 22 lbs, i ran 22lbs of boost on an EVOIII lil piece of shit and made 291, with 850cc injectors, s-afc, and pretty much all the stuff you have but i got a spearco intercooler with some homemade FULL of leaks piping, but i tried to boost 23 lbs but leaks brought me down to 22.4 lbs.

If you continue to over boost your turbo with those leaks, it will soon bring you down to 0 psi. Fix those leaks.

Welcome to my world, didn't do much better than that with my 50-trim

Then again my issue was marginal cooling from the FMIC, as I see you have a 24v you should be ok if proper cooling fans were in place.

I did notice that you were running 680injectors with only a S-AFC to control it (i.e. no eprom compensation / DSMLink). I would expect you're taking out alot of fuel which would lead to higher timing and higher propensity for knock.

Did you datalog timing during the runs? Also could you post up a DynoLog?

Pretty much. Fixing your leaks will lean out your A/F and put the turbo into a more efficient operating range.

Has anyone thought about the clutch yet? I've never heard of dxd clutches before...

He said that when he's driving it, boost kicks in and the motor gets loud, yet he doesn't go anywhere... sounds like a slipping clutch to me..

it is a south bend clutch.....i know of people who have had them due to the closeness of the company but have gotten rid of them due to the horrible wear time

The question I have to ask is what fuel were you using. If on pump gas yes those numbers seem low but its actually not to far off because bigger turbo is not being fully utilized . Yes 20g's are quoted as big turbo's and they do run great times but its on race gas. Pump gas LIMITS bigger turbos.....Trust me I know -on my 60-1@24psi put down 351AWH (with pump).......I was . I put race gas in it a few weeks later and I retuned it @28psi. The car was COMPLETELY different.

I thought the 60-1 wheel was very efficent at lower boost levels? How much power did you make at 28psi?

Just a couple notes / insights.

A 1% compressor efficiency increase equates to ~3.5F temperature decrease at the compressor outlet (btw 19-30psi).

A 5psi boost leak at 19psi equates to your turbo producing 24psi at the outlet (assuming no pressure loss accross the core).

Due to the adibatic process, the air heats up the more it is compressed. So instead of having to cool ~273F you now have to cool ~309F (+36F @ 75% compressor efficiency).

Cooling all this hot air falls directly on the FMIC. So unless you have good airflow across the core (big directional fan) or a huge core, you're not going to get optimal cooling so will be more prone to knock.

Race gas on the other hand allows for much hotter intake temps and timing so it can mask deficiencies in your setup
