Sorry, this might be kind of a newbie question.

Okay I am stumped. I am looking at Greddy BOV's on ebay and other websites and have noticed that the RS is significantly cheaper than the S, but on Greddy's website the S is the cheapest model they make and also the smallest valve size at 37mm. The RS is 40mm. What exactly does a larger valve size provide and why does the newer, larger type RS cost more on the Greddy sight, but less everywhere else? Thanks for your input on this one.

bigger valve = better performance.

as far as why the S is more expensive than the RS is because it's an oldschool favorite BOV that's been discontinued. When things people like get discontinued, the remaining product gets a bump in price, it's called supply and demand..

why does bigger valve = better performance? I already assumed that bigger was better, buy why?

I'm pretty sure the S is not discontinued yet, suppliers still have plenty of them in stock.

When a newer product comes out that is supposedly superior to an older one there has to be a reason other than it being "a favorite" that people will continue to buy the older model for more money.

And... i know what supply and demand is thank you :thumb:

yah i've heard the same that company wont be able to stock Type S's anymore cause from what i read that they are being discontinued and replaced by the RS.

LOL I wasn't being a dick about the supply and demand comment. the type S is a favorite because of it's unique sound. the "whistle" can only be attained by getting a type s and that's why alot of people like it. as far as "performance", the type S has held 25+ psi and is definitely a good BOV. to the average consumer, the difference in "performance" won't be distinguished..

Bigger valves evacuate more air quickly due to their larger cross-sectional area. With an intake system, to avoid compressor surge, you want to get that excess pressure out of the intake as fast as possible. This is why the "best" BOV, the Tial, utilizes a 50mm valve, and no you don't need this for your application, plus it can't be recirculated.

Cool, thanks for the info. I was really puzzled there for a while. So people are really that hung up on the sound of the S huh? If you don't vent to the atmosphere, isn't the sound kinda hard to hear anyways?

mine is pretty loud recirculated....... people always think its atmospherically vented. I do take the recirc hose off and plug the intake on occassion i like the sound and have no problems when i do and i only take it off during the weekend for the car shows and such then to keep things down i put it back on during the week but its still pretty loud.

The other reason is simply progress...

The RS is released at a much lower MSRP than the Type S was...
ie the older ones PROBABLY cost the company more....

that and not updating prices on websites in the last year of which many vendors are guilty.
