hey guys, I have a question, i made a boost leak tester last night and tried to do the whole thing today,i started to push pressure in to the turbo but it only gets past 1 P.S.I. on my Gauge.am i doing something wrong or is my car just that F&^ked up, i run the car and it only gets upto 6 P.S.I. and i know Normal boost is somewhere between 10-15 pounds,i kinda thought my gauge shouldn't move cuz i wasn't putting as much air as a Turbo, but i thought i would still hear the leaks, did the test and didn't hear jack S&*t.just heard the air run right through the pipes,i also closed the Bov lines, and Vac from the turbo.i really don't know what to do anymore.could it be that my car is just set at 6 P.S.I.? well hope you guys can help me out. Thanks Andy :dsm:

:dsm: hey andy. don't worry too much yet. The problem might be that you didn't use a powerful enough source to pressurize your system. The same problem happened to me. I first tried to use a bike pump and it just wasn't happening. Luckily, some great guys on this site helped me out. What are you using to pressure your system? I'm almost possitive that whatever you are using does not have enough "umph" to push enough air into your system before it has a chance to leak out. Try using a cheap-a$$ walmart compressor tank and fill it up at the local gas station. That should provide enough psi (perhaps 20 psi for about 15 minutes hopefully) to pressurize your system to allow the ability to locate any problems. Keep us posted. Happy Hunting. :dsm:

I can get my system to 11 PSI with a bike pump and i have alot of leaks I know one is out of the TB shaft and i think another is valve seals so you have ALOT of leaks

i did mine with a 2 gallon air compressor, i did mine to 20 psi after installing my new intercooler. i didnt block off anything and just had a friend sit in my car and yell at what psi i was. Did you hear any hissing or anything?

Damn guys my car must be really f%&ked up, i was using a 30 gallon compresser and it didn't move my gauge at all. what vac. lines need to be closed,i did the Turbo Vac line, the BOV line, but my BOV doesn't blow the air back in my tube,so do i need to close that 2?i got another Question, my Vac line on my Gauge reads at 17, does that mean thats how much my boost i should be pushing at full boost? i really don't understand how the Boost Gauge works,i just bough it for the reason of seeing how much boost i am push, but does me know good if all i see is 8, could have seen that with my OEM one? please help me out guys don't wanna mess up my engine for doing the test wrong. Oh and did i hear noise, not really i heard the air running threw might pipes and that was it,i thought my engine was suppose to hold the air,but as soon as i push the air in,it seem it comes straight out,WTF

If you have a MBC replace it with apeice of straight vacuum line or tighten it all the way down while oding the leak test

I hooked my compression tester up to the inlet of my turbo and compressed it to 20psi... and it held for a few seconds and then i was losing pressure at the rate of about 1psi/sec.
Try doing what notractiongst said about the MBC.

well guys i don't have a MBC,just a BOV,thats about it

Could it possibly be that when you shut off your engine before you tested, the enigine was in its rotation where both intake and exhaust valves are open.....Into the engine out the exhaust. Just a thought if your heard go through the pipes.
Compressor could be set to let out only a certain amount of PSi, say 20 PSI, and its not enough to pressurize the system (my compressor has that valve)

1. Bypass the factory BCS.

2. Unplug the pcv from intake and plug up the nipple.

3. Bring #1 cylinder to TDC.

4. Open the oil cap and listen for leaks in the crank case.

5. Recirculate if you're still on stock mas.
